    Brennan at the valet/bellman was excellent. He didn’t just bring up our (tons of) luggage, he brought with him, enthusiasm, caring, kindness and fun. He was so sweet to my grandbabies and talked to each of them. He took a picture of us and really tried to get the little ones to smile, while saying their names. The next day he was very friendly and just said hi. The following day he saw them and gave them a little gift box and still remembered their names!! He made our stay so enjoyable!

    We stayed at Zachari Dunes in Oxnard over Memorial Day weekend and were genuinely surprised by how nice the hotel was. Given that it was rated as a three-star property on Booking.com, our expectations were not particularly high, but the hotel itself felt far more premium than that.The setting is beautiful. The gardens, pool area, beach access and overall surroundings are really impressive. It feels much more like a resort than a standard hotel, and there were lots of families staying there. The location is peaceful, right on the beach, and the room itself was comfortable and pleasant. Overall, the hotel grounds and atmosphere were much better than expected.However, the prices across the property are unforgivable. The small sundries shop on site is outrageously expensive. Given that this is advertised as a three-star property, guests would reasonably expect the on-site amenities to be priced at least somewhat moderately, even if the room rates are higher due to Memorial Day weekend.For example, my husband hurt his back and I needed to buy some painkillers. A small sachet containing just two Advil tablets was $5. The hotel also advertises s’mores kits for the evening campfire. We went to the shop with $20 expecting to get change, only to find the kit was $35. It included just 12 marshmallows, two small Hershey bars and a small packet of graham crackers. That pricing is absolutely ridiculous.The restaurant on site is nice, but again, the prices are very high and would be out of reach for a lot of families staying here. It creates a strange mismatch: the hotel is marketed as a lower-rated property, but the extras are priced like a luxury resort.Overall, we had a pleasant stay and were impressed by how lovely the hotel, gardens, pool and beach access were. It really is a beautiful property and feels much more premium than expected. But the excessive pricing for basic items and family-friendly extras left us feeling ripped off, and unfortunately that really took the shine off the experience.     Nice resort, just missing the mark!

    We enjoyed our 3-day stay at Zachari Dunes. Our first room was a nice room, but looked out on a delivery access area. Was awoken by trucks very early the first morning. After requesting a better room, the front desk attendant worked with me and put us in a better location. The hotel is nice, but should offer some type of free breakfast at the price of these rooms. This is the nicest resort in the Oxnard/Ventura area and the rooms are a great size. The customer service is great!     Although the property is pretty service was terrible. We could not get our room cleaned. Complained at 1:30 and were told they don’t have to get to clean our room until 5. We had to get changed for a wedding. No amenities in room. No shower cap. Was told they don’t provide any extras.
