    My stay at the Essex House n Miami was great due to Joesph & Joel

    I was originally booked to stay at the Clevelander for my birthday, but Priceline messed up my reservation, so I was helped by Joseph at the front desk and he was able to place me in a great room right around the block at the Essex House which by the way smells great al through the hotel and is literally 2mins from the beach. He was great, very understanding and very helpful to the point the next time i will be contacting him directly to book any future trips to Miami. Once we were set at the Essex House we were also attended to by another great gentleman by the name of Joel who was also great and very helpful and understanding the customer service received from Joseph and Joel was EXCEPTIONAL and very much appreciated! We stood in from E5 which was suite 5 and the room was huge, very clean, smelled good and felt as if we were home which was also great. The area is top tier everything is walking distance and being around the corner from ocean drive was perfect because late at night the noise level is perfect to the point we got good nights of sleep. Other then that my experience was good thanks to the service provided, so thank you Joseph and Joel we look forward to coming back just off the strength of you guys.     Good value for money (with the right expectations)

    I stayed here several times in the mid-2010s and the vibe, decor and guest profile have definitely changed a lot since those days. The property feels much more like an overflow for the Clevelander and its rowdy crowds than the separate, quieter, and more classy property it used to be.Location is (obviously) still fantastic if you want to be in South Beach, and we got great value for money on our stay compared with nearby properties (about $200 a night for a superior room over a weekend).The bathroom was a bit dated and the lighting bizarrely harsh, but the room was otherwise fine for the price we paid: spacious, reasonably modern, and in decent condition. Soundproofing was surprisingly good given the room was practically right above the unspeakably noisy “Bacon Bitch” which has replaced the previous hotel bar (and seems to attract a very trashy clientele). Staff were friendly. Mandatory “resort fee” was annoying but is par for the course in America these days.I would stay again but it definitely helps to go in with the right expectations!     Ok hotel, but they take money from you and then ignore you.

    Hotel is ok, very basic rooms. Great location, but the walls are thin, and it's noisy. First night, had inconsiderate staff banging buckets around outside our room at 2:30am - made no sense. Breakfast offering was good.Had a lovely chap checking us in, told us we had paid all taxes and fees up front. No other fee info given. Nothing mentioned on check out, apparently all fine. Then got a charge to the credit card after we'd left, with no explanation. I have tried several times to query it, but no response at all.Feel like we have been robbed.     This hotel is a complete disaster. The management is utterly inconsiderate and money-grubbing. My flight was canceled due to severe weather, and instead of refunding my money, they refused to do so. My friend and I had planned to meet at this hotel in Miami, but I couldn’t make it, while he did. We had booked two nights there, but my friend couldn’t even spend another night in that hotel. He complained about the mosquitoes buzzing in his room and the overall poor maintenance. The hotel mugged my $800. The front desk doesn’t pick up the phone, the reservation staff aren’t ready to help as well. While the hotel manager, Joel, and Receptionist Garfri, said the hotel doesn’t charge for no-shows, the hotel management totally denied the refund request when my travel agency reached out to them.My friend who checked out after his first night in the hotel asked for the refund for the remaining night on the booking, the hotel manager said that they will refund but same story, no refund when travel agency reached out.
