    Reasonable hotel but cleaning staff and staff need better training

    Descent hotel not far from Lincoln road and the convention centre. Compared to the other BonVoy CitizenM in the same price range, I would choose this residence Inn. As an Ambassador member who does over 150 nights a year globally and has tried most other BonVoy hotels in Miami Beach, this is my feedback. ProsGood location not far from Lincoln road Descent breakfast with good coffee Descent price Nice rooftop pool with chairs Trader Joe in front of the hotel which is useful Some of the staff (Bobby at reception) are excellent Has a fridge and microwave (which CitizenM does not have) ConsThe room has no water boiler. They say to use the coffee machine but it does not work and is too complicated. They should add a normal water boiler. Very small gym (although they offer a pass to a yoga studio with a daily class)No daily room cleaning (every other day)I could not use the hair dryer as the bag it was in was very tight (this should be picked up by QC)Serious issues with cleaning staff. First, they entered my room without knocking which is unacceptable. Second, they literally forgot the cleaning liquid and dirty towel in the room. I had to put the cleaning items outside myself. The cleaning service definitely needs better quality control. Better training is also required. There is no safe in the rooms (which by judging by the cleaning staff mistakes is a must). They offer a locker service at the reception. But when I came to check out in the morning, the staff on duty did not know where the hotel key was. We wasted 15 minutes to try to find it and I barely caught my flight. The hotel should have offered to give me a discount or something but I am sure the incident was not even reported and thus I was never contacted by the hotel. Overall, I would return to this hotel but would appreciate some of the challenges above to be addressed.     This hotel is terrible. The rooms are dirty, the staff is very unhelpful, and there is nothing near the hotel. When we asked for bedding for the pull out sofa, they only brought sheets. And when I asked for a blanket and pillow, the helper just said: "I don't speak English," and walked away talking on his phone to someone. He didn't even try to help; just walked away. You can get a much better hotel for the same price, and closer to the beach.     The only plus is Benjamin he is a great asset! The first night the shower curtain had mildew, the sofa bed was broken which made our night uncomfortable and the refrigerator beeped all night. The second day my kids were stuck in the elevator. I had to walk down the stairs to the front desk to make them aware. After speaking with some who stated she was a manager she agreed to comp the first night. After I told her I had a second reservation she stated she would comp one of the rooms for the inconvenience. Due to the issues with one of the rooms we needed to move but no rooms were available. We had prior arrangements told front we would be back later that evening. Once we got back the same manager that I spoke with earlier that day was still there. I proceeded to check in, to gain access to the room. After the agent tells me how much to pay and that he can't comp the night I asked for the manager. She comes out and basically call me a liar! Where and how would I get this information. After checking into the second room. The sofa bed was working but had stains on it. I called front desk about the issues. He stated he could get someone to possible switch the beds I declined due to it being so late.She was very rude and condescending infront of guest waiting in line. I was there to celebrate my daughter's birthday which was not enjoyable at all.     Extremely Disappointing Stay – One of the Worst Marriott Experiences EverI honestly cannot understand how this hotel has any positive reviews. The property is dirty, poorly managed, and completely fails to meet even the most basic expectations, let alone Marriott standards.1) Poor Pre-Arrival Coordination:Before our stay, we received a polite email from Ludmila Bernardo Muniz de Jesus (with six others CC’d) asking if they could assist with anything in advance of our arrival. We responded with a simple request: to have the sofa bed prepared before we arrived. Despite arriving at 4 PM (check-in time), the sofa bed was not made up. Worse yet, it was broken and could not be pulled out properly. To make matters worse, there was a suspicious powdery substance under the pillows, which the staff had to clean on the spot. We ended up having to switch rooms.2) Second Room Also Dirty:Unfortunately, the new room was not much better. The linens were stained in multiple places (which we have photos of), and housekeeping had to come and change them. In total, it took the staff over an hour to resolve everything—wasting valuable time and adding unnecessary stress.3) Parking Chaos:We used the hotel’s valet parking, which is $55 per night plus tax. When we requested our vehicle, the valet could not locate our car key—for over 45 minutes. This delay caused us to miss the beginning of the event that was the primary reason for our trip to Miami. As a gesture of apology, the front desk manager agreed to waive the valet parking fee. However, upon checkout, we were still charged $55. After inquiring, we were told that only one day was credited and that the decision was final and not up for discussion.Overall:As a Marriott Gold Member who has stayed at hundreds of Marriott properties worldwide, I can confidently say this was one of the worst experiences I’ve ever had. The property is mismanaged and the rooms are dirty. After reading responses from hotel management to other negative reviews, I now realize that our experience is part of a pattern. Management often replies with polite apologies and promises of follow-up or improvement, but clearly nothing actually changes. Very disappointing.
