  We were on a family trip for New Year's 2025 and stayed at this hotel... we checked in normally, we got 2 rooms as there were 6 adults and 3 children, all normal procedures. In one of the rooms, the air conditioning didn't work on the last day, we woke up freezing, as it was already a very strong winter, but we didn't complain to management. Upon departure, we were entitled to a refund to our credit card of the security deposit of $400 ($200 per suite), which did not happen and we were unable to resolve it after our return to Brazil. Furthermore, on March 26, 2026, there was a debit on our credit card statement for $398.00, as shown in the attached photograph. This is absurd, as there would be no justification for such a charge. We will have to split the expense four months after leaving this hotel! I do not recommend staying there; they are not being honest. They say Brazilians are cunning, but I see that there is dishonesty there as well.   The Holiday Inn Express Jersey City-Holland Tunnel turned out to be a model midrange hotel. Staff were friendly, and the room—with refrigerator, microwave, and safe—was exceptionally clean and comfortable. Breakfast was fine. I have absolutely no complaints.The hotel sits a block from the place where westbound vehicles exit Holland Tunnel, and there was a huge amount of traffic on the street in front of the hotel. But I wasn’t bothered by traffic noise in the room, perhaps because of the unopenable windows or because my room was toward the back of the hotel or—most likely—both.The hotel’s about a 15-minute walk from the Newport subway and light-rail stations and a 10-minute walk from the wonderful Hudson River Waterfront Walkway. The walk—past two gas stations and three big-box stores with enormous parking lots—is a little strange, but it felt perfectly safe, even after dark. There’s a good sidewalk all the way, and there are other pedestrians. From Newport south to the Morris Canal, Jersey City is a pedestrian-friendly, bustling place.   Great for 1-2 nights stay

  Check in was a breeze. Parking is very limited as there are only about 40 valet spots and that’s it. Unsure if there is lot nearby as there was a bit of a language barrier with the valet operator.Had a bit of a rocky start as the temp in our room would not drop below 78 but it was made right as management moved us to a room that was a much more comfortable 68.Room was clean, customer service was good, breakfast was what you’d expect…cheese or egg white veggie omelettes, pancakes, bacon, sausage and a variety of fruit, cereal and baked goods. Hallway was quite warm but we were on the top floor and it was 97ish degrees when we arrived. A few tips for this hotel:1) book through IHG and avoid other booking services (looks like most complaints with this property are related to booking)2) this location is best for people without a car as only parking on site is valet which is only about 40 spots. 3) door dash food if you’re only staying a night or two as there aren’t many eateries within walking distance and the traffic is quite consistently busy given the location.4) only use this spot for 1-2 night stays as it’s not a spot you’d want to hang out for several days.5) you’re in a mixing pot area for culture and language…be patient if there’s a language barrier as it’s just as frustrating for them as it is for you. 6) ask for a room on the north-east side of the building…the skyline view is fantastic. Overall a good stay with no major complaints.   A solid hotel within striking distance of Manhattan

  This is a solid choice for a family wishing to visit Manhattan, especially if you are on a driving holiday. It is LITERALLY right outside of the Holland Tunnel. The rooms are quiet and spacious (we had room for 4 bicycles in our Queen Suite). Parking is available in their deck. The breakfast is above par for a HIES. The bathroom is spacious and has a REAL opaque door (why do so many new hotels have glass doors?) Bathroom does lack a night light, but the AC works really well (we were there in the height of the heat dome). Such a blessing for good AC. Note this hotel is not really within quick walking distance of any restaurants, but if you are willing to go on a nice 20 minute stroll, you can be in a really great pedestrian area with lots of restaurants. You are also VERY close to Liberty State Park where you can catch the ferry to Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty - Pro Tip: ferries from here are much less crowded than the ones from Manhattan.
