Miserable experience - constant disruptions to sleep
17 Jun 2026
I recently stayed at Hotel Hendricks during a work trip and it was a terrible experience. I would not stay there again. Generally the room looked ok, but very small. The pillows on the bed were quite uncomfortable and also they were shaped and sized like couch throw pillows rather than bed pillows. The ironing board’s padding was so thin and deteriorated that it left creases all over my clothes from the underlying metal mesh. Even though I wasn’t that close to the elevator, it made a weird (and loud) noise all night long, kind of like a slide flute. It was so loud and constant that it kept me awake even though I was wearing high quality earplugs. The in-room fire alarm flashed an unusually bright light continuously throughout the night, making it even more difficult to get a peaceful sleep. What made the stay go from below average to awful was that one night the fire alarm in my room malfunctioned and starting going off at 2:30 am, the night before the important presentation that I had traveled to NY to deliver. It wasn’t the whole hotel, just my room. When I went downstairs to get help, it took me nearly 30 minutes to find the desk clerk, who had wandered off and no contact info was provided for emergencies. I never received an apology or even acknowledgement, even though being awakened from a dead sleep in the middle of the night made me a wreck the next day. And, if you’re thinking, what are the odds – a guy a few doors down from me had the same thing happen two nights before. The desk clerk didn’t seem surprised and my guess is that it’s not a rare issue there. Also, my assistant booked the room on a third-party site and the rate was advertised as being “with all taxes and fees included.” This was a lie, as soon as you show up you get a stern lecture from the desk clerk about how you are required to pay a $45/night “amenity fee” in a tone that implies he will have security drag you to a back room and beat you if you don’t immediately sign an agreement to pay it without protest. If you’re curious what $45 of “amenities” looks like – it consists of: one small generic bottle of water upon check in, free slowish WiFi, and access to a small and poorly fitted out gym.

Hotel was a brilliant location. However very dark rooms and cleaner wasn’t the best . Bin didn’t get emptied tea coffee didn’t get filled up . The bathroom didn’t get cleaned well . We left a tip the first day as people had told us to but still didn’t get done properly.

Hendricks Review
07 Jun 2026
Mission & Concept★★★★✰The hotel presents itself as a modern boutique property with a clear focus on contemporary design, comfort, and an urban atmosphere. This concept is consistently reflected throughout the guest rooms and public areas, creating a cohesive and well-executed overall experience. However, the concept feels somewhat conventional and does not significantly distinguish itself from many other boutique hotels in Manhattan. While the design and ambiance are appealing, the property lacks a truly distinctive feature or unique identity that leaves a lasting impression. Overall, the hotel's vision is clear and competently implemented, but it falls short of offering a particularly memorable or standout experience.Cleanliness & Condition ★★★✰✰My first impression regarding cleanliness was somewhat mixed. The lobby was well maintained, presented a polished appearance, and immediately conveyed a professional atmosphere. The staff also contributed positively to this impression through their courteous and professional demeanor. In contrast, the elevator appeared rather utilitarian and lacked the same level of presentation as the rest of the property. Upon entering the room, it initially felt slightly less polished than expected, primarily due to some noticeable dust in certain areas. However, the overall standard of cleanliness remained acceptable. Both the guest room and bathroom were generally clean and well maintained throughout our stay. Housekeeping was consistent and reliable, with towels, amenities, and other essentials replenished regularly. We experienced no cleanliness-related issues during our visit and felt comfortable, undisturbed, and well looked after for the duration of our stay.Sleep & Rest★★★★✰The bed was comfortable and provided a restful sleeping experience throughout our stay. The bedding was of good quality and contributed to a pleasant level of comfort. The room could also be darkened effectively, which helped create a relaxing environment and allowed for uninterrupted sleep, even later into the morning. We did, however, experience an issue with the air conditioning system. While it functioned properly, it was noticeably loud, making it difficult to leave running during the night. As a result, we often chose to turn it off when sleeping. Considering that we had booked a King Room with a view of the Empire State Building, this was somewhat disappointing and did not fully align with the expectations associated with this room category. Despite this drawback, the room itself was comfortable, and we generally felt relaxed and at ease during our stay.Functionality & Comfort★★★✰✰At first glance, both the room and the hotel met our expectations, and we did not experience any major issues during our stay. However, there were several details that could be improved to better match the overall quality of the property. The air conditioning and heating system was noticeably loud, making it difficult to keep running during the night. As a result, we often had to turn it off when sleeping. The bathroom design also raised some concerns. While the bathroom door looks modern and stylish, it does not fully close, leaving a small gap and reducing privacy. In addition, the shower area is not effectively separated from the rest of the bathroom, causing much of the floor to become wet after each use. The shower itself was enjoyable and offered strong water pressure, although my partner found it somewhat too intense. We also appreciated the in-room mini refrigerator, which was a useful addition. We had booked a room with a view of the Empire State Building; however, due to the room's lower location within the building, the view was more limited than expected. Despite these shortcomings, the room was comfortable overall, and we enjoyed our stay.Service & Attitude★★★✰✰Our experience with the staff was somewhat mixed. On one hand, the employees were generally polite and professional. On the other hand, there were a few situations that could have been handled better. For example, we requested an additional blanket for our room and had to call multiple times before the request was fulfilled. The waiting time was longer than expected for what seemed to be a relatively simple request. We also found the service at the rooftop bar to be less welcoming than anticipated. As hotel guests, we expected a more friendly and attentive attitude. Instead, some interactions felt somewhat distant and uninviting. On a positive note, we appreciated being able to leave our luggage at the hotel after check-out and continue exploring the city before our departure. This was a convenient service and allowed us to make the most of our remaining time in New York. We also liked the interactive tablet located in the lobby, which provided useful services such as Google Maps and local information. However, it could be even more valuable if it included curated recommendations from the hotel itself, highlighting the best nearby restaurants, bars, attractions, and areas worth visiting, while also helping guests avoid common tourist traps. Looking ahead, it could be interesting for the hotel to introduce a digital chat or tablet-based communication system for guest requests instead of relying primarily on room telephones. Such a feature would allow guests to easily submit and track requests, while also creating a more convenient experience for travelers who prefer digital communication. It would improve transparency, make follow-ups easier, and provide a modern alternative to calling the front desk for simple requests.Location & Context★★★★✰The location is generally suitable for exploring Manhattan and provides convenient access to several interesting neighborhoods. However, the nearest subway stations are not located directly outside the hotel, requiring guests to walk a few blocks before reaching public transportation. Travelers who place a high value on immediate subway access may find other locations in Manhattan more convenient. One detail that stood out was the exterior signage, parts of which appeared damaged during our stay. While this is a relatively minor issue, it is one of the first things guests notice upon arrival and should be repaired to maintain a strong first impression. Despite these points, we found the hotel to be charming and enjoyable overall. The property captures a certain New York character and atmosphere that contributed positively to our stay.Value for money★★★✰✰In my opinion, the hotel sits somewhere between a three- and four-star experience, where attention to detail and professionalism make a significant difference. This is also the category in which guests naturally expect the price to be reflected in the overall quality of service and experience. Many of the issues I mentioned are not major problems on their own, but collectively they impact the overall value proposition. If these areas were addressed, I would have little hesitation in considering the hotel a strong five-star choice in terms of value for money. As it stands, I believe the property is most attractive when offered at a discounted rate or as part of a special promotion. At full price, I found it somewhat difficult to justify the cost compared to the overall experience provided. While we enjoyed our stay, I feel the hotel still has room for improvement before it can consistently deliver the level of value that its pricing suggests.Overall rating★★★★✰Overall, we would rate The Hendricks Hotel 4 out of 5 stars. While our stay was generally enjoyable, the overall experience occasionally felt closer to a three-star rating than a four-star one due to several recurring issues that affected the overall value proposition. None of the concerns mentioned in this review were serious enough to negatively define our stay. However, when combined, they created the impression that the hotel is not yet fully delivering the level of quality, attention to detail, and professionalism that its pricing suggests. Many of these shortcomings appear to be relatively easy to address and could make a noticeable difference to the overall guest experience. That being said, we still enjoyed our time at the hotel. The property has a pleasant atmosphere, a good overall concept, and a distinctive New York character that makes it an attractive place to stay. These strengths are the reason why we are ultimately awarding 4 stars rather than 3. We would gladly return in the future to form an updated impression of the hotel. The Hendricks clearly has potential, and we would be interested to see how the property continues to develop. By addressing some of the points highlighted in this review, the hotel could further improve the guest experience and more convincingly justify its position and pricing within the Manhattan hotel market.

Great value in a prime Midtown location
02 Jun 2026
For the price point, Hotel Hendricks is a solid option in New York. The rooms are definitely on the smaller side, but that’s pretty typical for Midtown Manhattan. They were clean, well kept, and had everything you really need for a short stay. The location is where this place really stands out. It’s right in Midtown, and if you like to walk like I do, it’s in a great spot. You can get to pretty much everything without needing to rely too much on transportation, which makes a big difference in NYC.There’s also a coffee spot in the lobby which ended up being more convenient than I expected. Being able to grab something quick in the morning before heading out was a nice touch.Overall, nothing over the top here, but that’s kind of the point. It’s clean, convenient, and priced right for what you’re getting. I would recommend it if you’re someone who plans to be out exploring most of the day and just needs a good place to come back to at night.
