    A Disappointing Experience

    rating19 Apr 2026

This is NOT a good hotel for business travelers. There were no USB outlets in the room save one that barely worked as part of a VCR (I think) under the TV; I bought an adapter at a convenience store down the block; no clock; no hair dryer (unless you asked, which I did and received one with a big brown paint stain); no full-length mirror; thin, pilled sheets; no coffee maker in the rooms (for that, you had to go downstairs); very, very bad cell reception that dropped calls, etc.; light bulb missing from the rickety, plastic lamp (though a staff member came and fixed it when I asked for a light bulb; and a "view" of a brick wall and a pipe. The printer in the "business center" was broken so the front desk had to print boarding passes. That said, the room was clean and I did not feel unsafe. The streets outside are very lively (yes, including with homeless people but also lots of kids and families). The employees were very polite and professional. The continental breakfast was rather stale bread products and giant "animal-feeder" containers of cereal. Coffee from the coffee maker was good. I twice asked for wake-up calls (due to there being no clock in the room and my phone alarm failing to work) and twice received NO WAKE-UP CALL. The rate was very cheap -- basically a third or less or what you'd spend for a Hilton or Marriott. This hotel would be good for families going to Yankees games, but NOT for business travelers. The common areas were nice and clean and the history of the place is amazing. Its facade is lovely. Next time I will book my usual go-to, Wingate by Wyndham Bronx Haven Park. It is ideal for business travelers and even has a nice restaurant on the ground floor.

There was a leaking in our bedroom, we had to change rooms, and we lost our morning by changing rooms. They move us to a smaller room, not even one apology. Also the room next to us where partying the entore night. Not a clean, buce hitel. Also

    Great time here

Checked in for three nights and was pleasantly surprised. Reception staff were friendly and efficient, quickly sorted a late arrival with a smile. Room was spotless, fresh linens and a tidy bathroom - felt cared for. Building has a relaxed, slightly vintage vibe that made evenings cozy. Location is practical and prices are very reasonable, excellent value for a clean, comfortable stay without fuss.

    Poor

Pro:The front desk staff were all excellent. Always greeted me and were very helpful. The rooms are beautiful, with tray ceilings. More importantly, they were clean and quiet.Housekeeping always did a nice job on the refresh. The continental breakfast was the usual fare, but adequate.Con:The area is best described as ‘scummy.’ I had to step over dog poop twice (I hope it was ‘dog’ poop) and was routinely panhandled when arriving or leaving the hotel. The waft of secondary marijuana was so strong this morning that I don’t think I’ll need to treat my glaucoma for a month. You cannot walk two feet without running into a homeless person. Not a family-friendly… not my family, anyway. At breakfast, they have two TVs cranked up, each on a different channel. Add to that, they also have music blaring overhead. I thought I was being interrogated rather than having a nice breakfast. The soap system is one you ‘squeeze.’ The soap in the shower would have required a gorilla to extract any soap. So, I changed the dispenser from the sink (which was much easier). When I did, the scum and dirt of generations were there to behold. I don’t think they’ve been wiped down since the Nixon administration. The TV had two remotes; neither remote worked except to actually turn on/off the TV. Selecting a streaming service or local channel was out of the question.I was leaving the hotel on day two, and there in the lobby was an older gentleman in a hotel uniform. He was stretched out with his shoes off, watching a video on his phone. I thought I might have walked into his living room by mistake.I asked to have the safe looked at, and the young man (who obviously had better things to do) said, “You just have to put the code and lock it.” While this gentleman won’t be meeting the King of Sweden anytime soon, I gently tried to explain that there was no button that said ‘lock.’ He said, It’s this one, it’s a bit faded.” A forensic team could locate the word ‘lock.’ Sadly, the young man was the opposite of customer service.I went to the food level mid-day and asked the hotel employee for a bowl, like they have out in the morning. You’d have thought I asked her for the nuclear codes. She whined and obfuscated and said my least favorite words from someone in customer service: “That’s not my job.” I tried to explain that all I was looking for was a bowl…. But when you have to describe customer service to someone in the service industry, it's because training and management are poor. At least her attitude was better than the guy who came about the safe. The internet was ‘spotty’ at best and frequently just stopped.

    Not a safe neighborhood

    rating09 Jul 2025

The hotel itself is clean and the staff was fine. The location is scary. This is not a safe part of town and I was traveling alone. I take some responsibility in the fact that I should have done more research given the fact that it’s a big city. That’s why I rated it a 3 and not lower. Anyone can go up the elevators and the locks are skimpy for the rooms. I wouldn’t stay here again solely based on the area of town and the lack of additional security given how dangerous the neighborhood is. I’d suggest staying elsewhere unless they increase security measures, and even then, don’t plan on walking around at night at all.
