Still can't sleep during the trauma caused to me at this hotel!

    rating13 May 2026

After days of consistently calling to speak with Chris Hill, Area General Manager, he finally gave me the pleasure of allowing me to hear his voice for a few minutes. He made sure to remind me that he was doing me the favor of taking some time in his office to speak to me. The Front Office Manager, Maria Lopez Soto.. I'm not sure if she was protecting me from him or vice versa. The entire front desk staff seemed to do everything in their power to protect each other. Loved ones of staff were constantly on property, only assuming they were not paying guests as these same people were seen hopping the pool fences and not tapping room keys. Marriott Bonvoy employees (they told me straight out that they worked for the company) were right there celebrating with them. It's very apparent that they don't want their endless summer to be taken away from them. Management has done a really good job at making me sound crazy to corporate, but feel free to check out the other 1 star reviews on Yelp, I'm not the only one making these complaints. Already anticipating the responses and cover ups that will be taking place after this review. They made it very apparent that they hated me:I was welcomed to this Residence Inn by 3 men peeing on the wall right outside of my hotel room window. Grown men were yelling in the lobby and up and down the halls all night long. Boyfriends of employees parked in front of the hotel blasting music at full volume all day. Adults hopped the fence into the pool area to get drunk and smoke weed and run around for hours on end night after night. Couldn't use the jacuzzi due to deathly allergy to smoke inhalation but begged them to have this area usable for me for just one night of my stay. Instead, the drunken, puking, reefer, sex party was still continuing in that hot tub that same night. Zero cameras on property and staff used this as a way to try to gaslight me into believing that complaints I made weren't real. Staff would knock on the door and immediately use their hotel keys to open it and try to walk in, even after I'd yell that I had just gotten out of the shower and was naked. I would be told that the hotel had security but after staying on property for 5 days straight I didn't see them more than once. I was asked to instead provide the last names of strangers so identities could be found and issues could be resolved, obviously impossible. Used the laundry services and my clothes smelled like mold, mildew, and diarrhea. Had to pack up all of my stuff in the middle of my stay to move to the property next door. Staff rolled their eyes at me and talked about me under their breath during my entire stay because I was unhappy about the things that were continuously happening and how unseriously I was being taken. Treated like an inconvenience for not being able to get sleep or work done and instead physically ill from the stress of feeling dangerously unsafe. Came home to my legs and ankles so swollen I can barely walk. My health issues were exasperated by the stress and fear brought onto me while at Residence Inn Newark. To the point that I'm not eating, barely sleeping, and on the toilet 10+ times a day. Bolting awake at night from a dead sleep with severe anxiety that another man is going to come through my hotel room door. Spent hours on the phone with corporate and was promised phone calls and emails from hotel management, which they never delivered on it. Was told issues were escalated to upper management and even told elaborate stories on how these managers actually dealt with the situation behind the scenes. Same managers knew nothing of these events taking place the very next day when I asked them face to face. Was offered $0 in compensation nor any kind of resolution for what I experienced. This is all just the tip of the ice berg to the horrors of what to expect at this property.Fun place if you want to party it up. Not a nice place if you want to be treated as a valuable customer whose right to feel safe is considered. Meh..

Lobby looks newer and renovated but the rooms are very dated. The sofabed had tears, and also the curtains. Bathrooms are old, closet door was hard to slide. The space was adequate for my teenage son and I. We came for a high school event and this was the hotel room block our school had reserved. Staff was friendly but it was always hard to get someone on the phone. Breakfast was typical, nothing spectacular. Convenient Location with Convenience of Home

    rating15 Feb 2026

I believe 3.8 stars is appropriate, but I had to up the stars for good reason. Not so great:(1) Much of the furniture is outdated, and the window dressings are in need of a change. My guess is that the hotel will be due for an update soon. The dresser drawers did not close all the way. The ottoman and table chairs are worn. The sofa bed is very basic and sinks in couch form. One of the window’s curtains is ripped. The only updated piece of furniture is the desk. (2) My daughter had an issue with the lighting system. She had difficulty sleeping at night because the lights kept on turning on when she shifted on the sofa bed. We had to explain how the lighting system works. (3) The HVAC system is very loud and is constantly blowing air. What we love:(1) The location is excellent. There is a great variety of restaurants within walking distance of the hotel. There is a Sprouts and a Safeway within walking distance as well. There is even a Ross within walking distance.(2) If we had chosen to use the full kitchen, we could have easily walked to Sprouts or Safeway. I always love staying at a Residence Inn to have the option of cooking a meal rather than going out. (3) The free breakfast allows us to have a full meal before starting our day. There is something for everyone. It’s not a full blown breakfast buffet, but it is enough. I love the fact that there is an option for hard boiled eggs for those who do not like eggs done other ways. There is a great variety of dairy, including yogurts. There are also three different cereals. Muffins, bagels, toast, and other bakery items are available as well. You can also make waffles. It’s not gourmet, but it will get you going in the morning. (4) The room is spacious. With two adult children, we had enough space to even handle purchases. (5) While my daughter had issues with the lighting system, I found it quite convenient. Going to the restroom in the middle of the night was extremely helpful. (6) I always like it when the sink is separate from the shower and toilet. It allows for people to get ready while someone is on the toilet or taking a shower. It’s a time-saver. The sink area has plenty of space for toiletries and such. It’s great that there is an area for hand and face towels. The closet across from the sink area has plenty of space for storing our belongings. We generally do not travel with clothing that requires ironing, but there is that option. (7) While our room was not an accessible one, I loved the fact that there was a bar in the shower to step in and out of the tub. That is very important for safety. The bathroom was large as well. I am finding that hotels with curved shower curtains lends itself to a dry floor. The fact that chlorine and other irritants are filtered out of the water is so comforting. (8) There are plenty of places to plug in electronics, and I loved the fact that I could work on the desk as if I was at work. (9) The bed is medium firm. I am so glad it is not plush. You can feel when someone shifts in bed, but that is standard for most hotels. The four pillows on the bed are so comfortable and allow for sitting in bed or sleeping. (10) Least important of all but comforting are the two paintings in the room. I am sure each room has different ones, but they are pleasing to art lovers. (11) The location relative to San Francisco and San Jose was extremely convenient. As the RI is close to the 84, it only took us 45 minutes to get into SF and less than 30 to get into SJ.(12) The reason why I gave a 4 instead of three is due to the hotel staff. Front desk personnel are so polite and courteous. We needed extra towels and blankets. After a call to the front desk, they were delivered within 5 minutes. We arrived to celebrate a birthday and indicated on our reservation. RI had a birthday bag ready for our arrival. The breakfast staff were efficient and polite. Nothing was ever empty. It appeared no one took any breakfast, when clearly there were quite a few hotel guests partaking. Hotel staff is always the deciding factor between rounding up or rounding down in my reviews. Even though the room needs updating, the staff and the convenient location make me want to stay again.

    Deferred maintenance and substandard breakfast

    rating19 Jan 2026

The hotel is clean and the check-in welcome was perfectly nice (though staff members were not consistently pleasant during my stay.). The room was clean and well-maintained. There are signs of wear here and there, and the pool area is a shambles. The whirlpool does not work. I went to the desk to report this and they seemed surprised and called an engineer. He said that “sometimes it takes fifteen or twenty minutes for the bubbles to appear.” This did not happen. I wouldn’t have booked the hotel if I’d known that the whirlpool did not work. If you don’t eat eggs, there are no hot breakfast items for you.

They’ll oversell and leave you stranded

    rating13 Jan 2026

The hotel canceled my reservation. They tried calling once while I was in a meeting. When I called back, they said my reservation was cancelled because they oversold. They claimed my card was declined but it’s the same card uses for years of travel with Marriott and plenty of credit at the time. I think they falsified reason for the cancellation to avoid arbitrarily cancelling my reservation.
