    Underwhelming for the cost

    rating15 Aug 2026

Paid $1600 for 4 nights in sparsely furnished 2-bedroom unit with no flat surface on which to place a suitcase, threadbare linens, and no bathroom amenities beyond soap. ‘Full breakfast’ was also sparse: bananas the only fresh item, English muffins and bagels the only bread products, and scrambled eggs the only egg choice. General Manager, Agency / Consultant at Residence Inn by Marriott Portland Downtown/RiverPlace, responded to this review Thank you for sharing your experience with us, John. We are sorry that your guest room and the breakfast offerings did not meet your expectations. The details you mentioned about the furnishing, linens, and amenities will be reviewed with our housekeeping and dining teams so we can work toward a better experience for our guests. We appreciate you bringing this to our attention.

Not a nice Residence Inn and neither is the location.

    rating01 Apr 2026

This is by far the most not so nice Residence Inn I've stayed at. I do feel bamboozled by the location as well. I thought it being by the water would be nice but it isn't, at all! This area is dead and there is nothing to do but try to dodge all the bored people who will try to run you over with an electric scooter. The hotel itself including the room is drab. Our booking was for a 1 bedroom king suite. The room is tiny and the bed might have been a queen it was so small. The bed is also painfully uncomfortable we could not sleep. There is ZERO PRIVACY for the bathroom area. No night light so you have to turn the light on and disturb everyone to find your way to bathroom but watch out for the wall because you will hit it. There's hardly any room to maneuver around the bedroom. The commode is next to the shower and there is no sink. So I'm having to open the door using my elbow so as not to touch the doorknob to make my way to the sink. It's seriously gross and unsanitary. At the very least they could install a small sink in there. Water is cold and the hot water takes forever or disappears mid shower. Breakfast was below basic compared to other Residence Inn's. Only three waffle stations, no whip cream, no chocolate chips, no Nutella packs like the other locations. It wasn't 9AM yet and there was only one egg station with the other not being refilled. Another guest was visibly annoyed that I took three servings for my family. Other Residence Inn like the Silicon Valley location they have a variety of breakfast options including ethnic food. Parking at $40/night is steep. $40/night for what exactly? The spaces are so small you cannot open the door to get in or out of your car. You cannot open the trunk of your car in the parking garage without it hitting the pipe above and every spot has a pipe directly above. Our stay here was bad enough that we forfeited our paid stay and left. The Residence Inn Modesto, San Jose Silicon Valley, and even the Anaheim location are so much nicer. I would not recommend this Residence Inn nor the downtown/river area to experience Portland. General Manager, Agency / Consultant at Residence Inn by Marriott Portland Downtown/RiverPlace, responded to this review Thank you for sharing such detailed feedback about your visit, rainbowpuppies. We are truly sorry your experience at our property and with the surrounding area left you so disappointed. Your comments about your room layout, the comfort of your bed, and the bathroom setup have been shared directly with our housekeeping and engineering teams so we can look into these concerns further. It is especially concerning to hear that you felt the experience in our breakfast area and garage fell short compared to other Residence Inn locations you have enjoyed. Feedback like yours helps us focus on areas where we clearly need to improve. We regret that your stay led you to leave early and that this visit did not offer you the comfort or value you expected. Thank you again for giving us such an honest account.

Nice residential hotel in Portland, Oregon

    rating12 Mar 2026

My spouse and I and another family member stayed at this property to be near a family member having surgery in the nearby hospital. We booked a two-bedroom suite which included a breakfast and had a kitchen, which came in handy. The front desk staff were very competent and so kind and helpful. The included breakfast was typical hotel breakfast, but it worked. Only complaint I have is the lack of drawers in the master bedroom (basically none) but all in all, it was a nice hotel to stay in. You can walk to the Tram to the hospital complex or go the other way along the riverwalk to downtown Portland. General Manager, Agency / Consultant at Residence Inn by Marriott Portland Downtown/RiverPlace, responded to this review Thank you for taking the time to share your experience, Rose. We are glad your two-bedroom suite and the kitchen setup were helpful during your family's time in Portland, and it is wonderful to hear our team made you feel supported throughout your visit. We appreciate your comments about the drawers in your guest room and will keep this in mind as we look for ways to improve the comfort of our accommodations. It is good to know the location made it easy for you to get to the hospital and enjoy the riverwalk as well. We hope your family member's surgery went smoothly and that you found some comfort during your stay with us at Residence Inn by Marriott Portland Downtown/RiverPlace. We would be happy to welcome you again whenever your travels bring you back to the area.

Stayed here with my wife recently and hated it. Bad spot with an ugly view, awful food, and dirty room. Awful staff here too, just stay far away. General Manager, Agency / Consultant at Residence Inn by Marriott Portland Downtown/RiverPlace, responded to this review Thank you for sharing your experience. We’re sorry your visit didn’t meet expectations, and your feedback has been shared with our team for review. Your comments help us focus on the areas that need improvement.

Good Residence Inn in a less busy area near PSU

    rating09 Nov 2025

First time at this residence inn for two nights but I have stayed at others across the US. Initial impressions upon arriving is this is a noisy area next to a freeway but it was quiet inside. Another couple mentioned a low hum of traffic as their room faced the freeway. Our room faced away and we could not hear the traffic. Location is next to the river walk and convenient light rail station which was easy to navigate and use. Use your phone to tap and pay either at the station or on the train. Look up Portland Max Light Rail service and you'll save a ton of money in taxi fare. Or you can take a nice walk about 1.5miles to downtown along the river. We had friendly and efficient check in and helpful check out. Breakfast is basic and less than what I've had at other residence inn. This is not a luxury hotel so a basic breakfast as part of this rate is what I expected. They were understaffed but were still friendly and got the food out after they ran out of eggs. See the breakfast photos for what you can expect.King bed in studio room was comfortable and I earned an excellent sleep score! Pool was warm and hot tub was hotter. Gym is small with free weights and cardio equipment. Decent enough for basic exercise. Overall, a good location near light rail station in a less busy area with not a lot of restaurants. General Manager, Agency / Consultant at Residence Inn by Marriott Portland Downtown/RiverPlace, responded to this review Dear SVRyder,Thank you for sharing your thoughts about your stay with us. It seems like you had an overall positive experience, exploring the convenient location and using our amenities. We're pleased that you found our check-in process efficient and our team personable.Your mention of the breakfast has not gone unnoticed. While we always strive to provide a variety of options, we acknowledge there may be room for enhancement. Your feedback is invaluable in this respect. It's great to hear that you found the bed in your studio room comfortable, and that our exercise amenities met your needs. We appreciate your candid feedback and will certainly consider your points for future improvements. We look forward to welcoming you back soon.Warm regards.
