    The hotel was expensive for the value. There was no hot water and several attempts to hack my phone and computer through the internet. The fitness center only has two machines and no weights.

    If you are looking for a place to sleep and shower, this is fine. It’s all we needed over the Thanksgiving holiday. We did have trouble with the room temperature and the bathroom was FREEZING. Totally unheated. The tub looked like something had been spilled in it and stained it. This is clearly a budget place. But it was clean and conveniently located.

    I realize 5* reviews should be for Four Seasons or Peninsula hotels, but HJ Portsmouth New Hampshire really delivered. Very helpful hotel staff. Updated and comfortable rooms with a mid-century modern look. Continental breakfast is nothing lavish but has the basics to get you through to your next meal. Easy and free parking. An especially great value for an otherwise expensive city. I believe the quieter rooms are even-numbered. Highly recommended.

    We stayed here for just one night. Hotel is on the older side. Corridors are a bit musty, and people seem to leave their rooms latched open which is weird and kinda uncomfortable. Bed was ok. WiFi was fine. Only one chair in the room, needed a second. Breakfast was pretty basic, no hot items only microwaveable sandwiches.

    Very friendly and helpful staff. The room was very clean and had everything you need. Descent breakfast and coffee. Convenient to downtown Portsmouth and grocery stores.
