    Deceptive charges

    rating25 May 2026

Booked a room for one night, (through Hotels.com) place was nice, clean, comfortable. The reason for my 2 star review is a deceptive charge that was added to my AMEX the day I check out for $54.37. This was over and above the lodging charge of $149, the PMC valet parking $55.62 + $10.50 added tip. I have been trying in vain to get ANYONE to reply to my constant inquiries to explain this charge to NO avail. Nobody (specifically Caroline Gonzalez, who, I was told, is the manager) returns my calls, emails, FB direct messages. Absolutely ignored, and very frustrating. MAKE SURE YOU GET A PRINT OUT of all charges BEFORE you leave.

Disappointing Stay Marked by Poor Service and Maintenance Issues

    rating02 May 2026

I stayed here for three nights this past weekend while attending a nearby convention, and unfortunately the experience was worse than expected.I don’t mind historic hotels, but this property feels old, worn down, and poorly maintained. Many areas are damaged or only partially functional, and upkeep appears minimal. The biggest issue, though, was service—or the lack of it. Staff generally seemed disengaged and uninterested in guests. Check‑in took 30 minutes because the front desk was staffed by someone covering lunch who openly said she normally works at the Menger across the street and wasn’t familiar with the system. By the time we checked in, there was a line out the door.We were told there would be no housekeeping for a three‑night stay, and that we’d need to request basics like towels or trash removal from the front desk. Trash piled up quickly. In the Tavern, our group of six waited more than 30 minutes just for drinks on a Saturday afternoon.Cleanliness was also an issue. During breakfast one morning, there was a large dead roach in the café that remained there the entire time—even as staff walked by repeatedly. The public water bottle filling station didn’t work, leaving guests to awkwardly use a water fountain instead. The room itself had multiple problems: a collapsing/rused ironing board, scuffed furniture and walls, missing drawer knobs, peeling tub glaze, a rusted mirror, unreliable AC, and a refrigerator that froze our food solid. The final frustration came at checkout when a 2.5% credit card fee—not disclosed during booking—was added to the bill. Absolutely not worth it and would not stay here again; Happy to walk a few steps closer to the Alamo.

The Crockett - Could Be Better With A Little Work And TLC

    rating27 Apr 2026

I am very sad to say, after all these years finally getting a room at the hotel, it was pretty much of a disappointment. The rooms were not just small - they were tiny, as was the bathroom. I literally could not move a desk chair around the room. The coffeemaker didn't work and I got in the room with 1/2 roll of toilet paper. No one answered at the front desk and I had to go down to get a roll myself. After a long trip, I just wanted to collpase for awhile, but I had to work some before AI could do that. When I asked to get a copy of my airline boarding pass, the lady at he desk said she didn't know how to do it and sent me over to the Menger, where they were most helpful. Breakfast available is just muffins, etc and coffee, a long cry from what it used to be. The bar restaurant was really pretty woeful - downhill from just a few years ago when we purposely went there for dinner it was so good. What DID I like? I liked the decorations, including the paintings - it did have great atmosphere - in the lobby. I understand it is old and the rooms were made small and I LOVED my view of the Alamo property, although I am lucky that I am an early riser and beat the drills and jackhammers of the workmen right across the lane. And a shout out to Edouard at the front desk who was SUPER HELPFUL in every way and went the extra mile for me to get my wakeup at 3 am and a cab at 4 am. He also checked me in and found a room for me so I didn't have to roam around until official check-in time. He is a super guy and deserves to be commended for his professionalism and friendliness! Also, the room had a clock, whihc doesn't happen very often anymore. Would I stay there again. If I'm by myself, in a HEARTBEAT! I don't need much. With others, not so much. It would be like living in a barracks walking all over each other. For pleasure, to just roam around the Alamo and the Riverwalk, it's fine. For business, not so much. It was a long way from bad - not even close to that - but just a little work on the little things would make it great, understanding it's an older property.

Great local but needs blackout curtains

    rating21 Apr 2026

Great hotel in fantastic location. The only thing I would change is having blackout curtains on rooms that face the courtyard. So bright!! Esteban with valet services was awesome! Also a smile and by far the most helpful of all the valets!!!

    Great Location; Excellent Valet.

    rating16 Apr 2026

Great hotel near the Riverwalk and Alamo. Esteban in Valet is excellent. He had eating recommendations and valuable parking tips and was very personable. The front desk staff was fine, but not nearly as good.
