Rip off for no amenities and terrible smells

Room smelled musty. No room anywhere, including the closet, for a suitcase. No room service after 6pm. No breakfast. Pool is tiny. "poolside view" was the top of the parking garage. Incredibly noisy. "private balcony" was concrete slab that was standing room only for 1 person and an ugly rail. No breakfast, just cheap coffee. For comparable rates, go somewhere better.

The hotel was difficult to find but that was my problem. I accidently turned down a one way street and missed it because I did’n look to the left side of the one way street.Checking in was average except I had a very enjoyable conversation with Yaciel who checked us in. She was really personable and really knew how to communicate and make a guess feel welcomed. Actually this was the most positive event of our stay. I was told at check in that the parking fee would be $30 per night. It was a bit more than I expected.This may have been a major factor in my choosing or not choosing this hotel Upon settling in we attempted to use your "FREE INTERNET SERVICE”. I followed the instructions to logon with no success. I called the desk and they asked if I followed the logon procedure I said yes they repeated the procedure with no fix.. I decided to go the desk to see if someone there knew what was wrong. Again the process was repeated with the same results. I then asked to speak to the manager Tracy Wickens. She told me that I had to call Cox the third party supplier. I asked her why did I have to call implying that I was using your “FREE INTERNET SERVICE". She said that the system is working for us so it must my problem. I took it to mean that in some way I caused the problem.She then said “I’m not going to argue with you anymore and walked away.Since I needed the service I decided to call Cox.The first level of service person after making an effort said he didn’t have the ‘tools, software’ to solve the problem and referred me to the next level. TJ The technician had trouble finding Best western Plus account. Finally he identified the problem. Settings was turned on limiting multi devices usage. TJ was not sure if the setting was local or global so he cleared all settings and the problem disappeared.My final comment: Tracy Wickens displayed more than poor customer service!! If she is justified in her handling of this situation your hotel should state that problems with the “FREE INTERNET SERVICE” are the customers responsibility and are not FREE. CUDOS TO YACIEL

Nice hotel but with some significant shortcomings

This hotel has some great things about it but significant negatives as well. First, the pros: We stayed in a nice-sized remodeled room facing the pool area (well, not really—see below) so we wouldn't hear street noise. The room was quiet, the beds were great, and the shower was very good with nice grab bar and rubber mat. The hotel has a central location that's super-convenient to Little Italy, downtown, and the waterfront—you won't need a car here (and in fact, may not want to bring one because of the exorbitant parking fee—more on that in a minute).Now, the cons: Figuring out where to park when checking in is confusing/wrong if you use Siri’s directions—call the hotel for directions. You'll pay $30 per night to park in an unsecured garage in an area that has a significant homeless population—unfortunately, I didn't notice this when reserving on my phone or I might have stayed elsewhere. The garage spaces are also unusually hard to get into and out of—there's just not much space, especially if there are large SUVs next to you or behind you. Although we were happy with our room on the whole, the toilet was very short—it may be good for kids but not for adults used to standard "comfort height" toilets. Our supposed “pool view” was actually just a sliver of the pool—the rest was of the top of a parking garage. Also, although this was a Best Western Plus, there was no free breakfast like in all the other Best Western Plus hotels I've stayed at. Finally, while you can easily walk to Little Italy, the waterfront, public transportation, etc., safely during the day, I would definitely not feel safe on some of the less populated streets here at night.

Ideal location for walking to Little Italy. We especially love having a balcony to enjoy the always amazing weather in San Diego.

I had an amazing time at this hotel as a staycation. Room was wonderful, pool was great!! Hector and Yaziel checked me in and gave 100/10 customer service. Hector went above and beyond by delivering my DoorDash to my room (even though that’s not his job). Stephanie was also great and helpful. I would stay again and plan to.
