Location

This comfortable hotel is situated close to San Diego harbour and the Gaslamp Quarter. The trolley to Tijuana (Mexico) and the old town is located just a short distance away.

    I was skeptical but had a good stay

    Having never tried this more budget friendly hotel I was worried. However the location to balboa park (an easy uphill walk) and to little Italy for food, plus a decent restaurant across the road has made a convert of me! Plus in the basement they serve a free and pretty good breakfast. Hot water and good tea bags, decent oatmeal. 2% and almond milk options. Rye bread and (not so great) peanut butter. Orange juice…. I was happy. Plus it was very inexpensive- the cheapest of three hotels I tried. I’d chose it again. Be aware that you could get noisy neighbors since there are families with kids enjoying the connected rooms and large 2-queen bed space. My neighbor was a business guy and I did hear his 10:00-11:00 pm conversation through my earplugs. Fortunately after that all was very quiet and I slept well. My IHG room preference was not observed (far away from elevators or ice) but mine was the last room they had so change was not possible. Nice friendly front desk staff.

    Reasonable location, sort of equidistant among the harbor, Gaslamp District, Balboa Park.Hotel was clean and bright and underground parking was convenient and reasonably priced (for downtown). Clerk at check in was personable and allowed us very early check in.Room was smallish, but large enough for 2 queen beds. Beds were very comfortable. Windows opened enough to allow outside ventilation.Complimentary hot breakfast buffet was good, not great, identical to Holiday Inn Expresses everywhere.

    I stayed from September 28 to October 1, 2025, and had a very pleasant experience. The staff were helpful even before my arrival — they promptly replied to my emails as I was arriving late and also kindly kept a package that was delivered before I checked in.Special thanks to Mike, Hope, and Pablo for their friendly and professional assistance throughout my stay.Breakfast was simple but delicious — with options like turkey sausage, bacon, potatoes, coffee, and apple juice. I loved that it could be enjoyed in the dining area or taken to go. There’s also a convenient water filling station on the ground floor.The room had a slightly old-style design but was very clean, tidy, and odor-free. Wi-Fi worked well, the bed was comfortable, and hot water was excellent.Overall, it was a great and comfortable stay — would definitely return when visiting San Diego again!

    Hotel's fault for late check-in. Bad attitude from front desk.

    Bad experience. Check-in was at 4pm, but the lady working front desk at 4:40pm on 8/30 told the whole line our rooms wouldn't be ready for another 30 minutes and seemed to give us attitude. She also wasn't accommodating at all when we asked for a later check-out time. I paid a lot of money for this room, and I have evening plans! Won't be staying here again.
