    Considering the positive reviews and the price I had higher expectations coming here. Pretty much upon arrival we were disappointed - the place is a lot more rundown than appears pictures. The elevator was out of service that night (fixed the next morning) so I ended up carrying our stuff up by hand over three trips from the car to hotel room. The room, a two queen, was very cramped and low quality, like a motel. The fan was very loud so despite the room being hot we kept it off at night. The breakfast room was again not very nice, with limited seating, but there was a basic continental breakfast offering. I’ll give credit to the service. I was helped by Fred at the front desk and he was very friendly, same with the rest of the staff he encountered. Also, the resort is on the beach and they offer free gear like umbrellas and seating.Overall, for the price it’s too low quality for us to stay again.

    We booked through hotels.com and learned after we arrived that the resort has two parts: Hotel rooms on the first floor and condos upstairs. We usually like an upstairs room but were told they were not available, which wasn’t apparent when making the reservation. Our room was okay: It was a bit dated, with a loud fan that blasted too much air but helpfully drowned out street noise. Our ocean view was over the tops of cars driving by. The room did come with a free continental breakfast that is only available for hotel guests, not if you are in the condos. The condos can be rented through the hotel or other platforms and I don’t know how they compare with the hotel rooms. The resort is very well located near restaurants and the beach. It also has an underground garage, which really helped because it was raining heavily when we arrived. TLDR: the hotel does the job but I would not come back.

    Love this place. Location is literally across the street from ocean and easy walk to Carlsbad village. Older venue but beautifully maintained. Nice rooms and great beds

    Great location! Short distance to many attractions in the area. Walkable town with many good restaurants. The only negative was the resort was very dated.

    Wife and I live locally and wanted to try to get away to a “resort“ for her birthday.So we decided after many reviews on TripAdvisor to give the Tamarac Beach hotel a try.Overall, I would give it maybe three.Friendly staff, quick to be helpful.Hotel in ok condition for its age and location - which is old and in many cases worn.Many parts are older and in need of repair.Great location and ocean views.Included breakfast is continental - so we ate elsewhere.Filtered water is appreciated.Rooms clean with plenty of towels and amenities like microwave and refrigerator.Hotel gets 3 stars for:No safe in the room.Bed not comfortable and pillows much too big and not comfortable. Hurt our head and neck.Room was too hot and no way to reduce temperature below 70 at night, if that. This is totally unacceptable to my wife who must have below 68 temperature.Patio was nice with the ocean views. But the Wifi doesn’t work on the patio and the setting sun view isn’t shaded so it was way too hot to sit out and enjoy the late afternoon view.Pool was nice, and beach towels provided, but no cushions provided, so the chairs/lounges became too uncomfortable to sit on after a short while.If we brought our own pillows and cushions and mgt. could reduce room temps significantly below 70, we might consider coming back.As it was, we left a day early because it was too uncomfortable.Do I recommend it: No, we would not come back.I was going to leave four stars but when I checked out and told the clerk at the front desk, I was leaving a day early, he didn't even bother asking why.I think that shows the poor spirit of the management & as we know, the fish thinks from the head down.Not recommended.
