    Horrible stay & violation of privacy - someone intruded INTO my room at MIDNIGHT

    I had a horrible 1-night stay at Crowne. The first room assigned smelled like smoke so they re-assigned me to another room that still smelled like smoke. I was too tired to deal and went to sleep, but woke up around midnight to someone coming INTO the room. I yelled "excuse me?" and they closed the door and left. My entire next work day was shot after having trouble sleeping from the incident and not feeling safe. I told the front desk at checkout and asked them to look into it. It took TWO weeks for the Manager to call me - he reported no one came into the room which was absolutely not true, since both my partner and I woke up to it. They did not provide proof of the card key access report, or the camera footage. And to add insult to injury, instead of refunding me for my 1-night horrible stay, they only credited me $50 for the "inconvenience". I would not recommend Crowne Plaza. If you must stay here because of work, definitely put the extra security lock on the door because someone might come inside in the middle of the night for who knows what.

    Don’t expect a good nights sleep

    Hotel is undergoing major refurbishment (which is desperately needed!!!!). No prior warning at the time of booking to say work was being carried out. Signs state work being done between 8am and 2pm however there were lorry’s outside at 4am collecting and replacing skips being used for the construction making huge amounts of noise. The windows are paper thin and you can therefore hear all of the road noise from the various highways. Possibly the worst nights sleep I’ve had in any hotel. Was moved to a new room where the curtains were broken and didn’t shut properly. The air con units are ancient and make a huge amount of noise so don’t think you’ll have these on in the night. Breakfast is pretty poor, either Al a carte or buffet.

    Wedding Nightmare

    We stayed in the honeymoon suite at the Crowne Plaza Foster City as part of a wedding weekend, with multiple rooms booked for our guests. Unfortunately, the experience fell short in several ways.The suite had only one robe—which seems like an oversight for a room intended for two—and there were no basic amenities like napkins. We requested a second robe, but it was never brought. The next morning, loud construction began before 8am, making it hard to get any rest.The night before the wedding, during the reception, a security guard screamed at my fiancé on the dance floor—yelling “No drinks on the dance floor!” in front of everyone. It was abrupt, unnecessarily aggressive, and really dampened the mood. We ended up leaving early because of it.Afterward, we reached out to the hotel to share our concerns and never got a response—no apology, no acknowledgment. For a hotel that markets itself as an event space, the lack of hospitality and professionalism was incredibly disappointing. Would not recommend for weddings or group stays.     The rooms are big, the hotel is nicely maintained and the staff members are warm. The surroundings are nice for long walks. The hotel is hugely in demand, given the paucity of options in the neighbourhood. The rooms, while big, convey a slightly congested feel. On the whole, a good option for a stay in San Mateo / Foster City.

    Noisy. Loud DJ until after 11 pm. After midnight equipment rolling out of a party venue in the hotel was just as noisy. Freeway noise is not as loud but still audible. I get that management wants to make extra profits from renting rooms for parties, and unfortunate they don't care about guests who want to sleep.
