This place should be shut down by the city... SO unhygienic, exploitative, RUDE, and sketchy. We had a fight with the owner cause our friend had to use the bathroom as we were checking out. I'm usually pretty easy going but this "establishment" crossed so many lines. I'm genuinely surprised they're still open. We came here cause it was super cheap but left wishing we'd spent more money.

the pillow(singular) is flat like a comic book, you have to dress your own bed/cot.1 sheet, 1 blanket...too small for a body. No dresser, no chair, no shelves, no curtain for window(anyone can look in)Front Desk Man was rude coming in, and going out. I booked for 3 nights, and ran away after 1 night, and booked another hotel at 830am the next day. This place is not even worth the cheap price....as your stepping over one homeless person to bump into another homeless person. Garbage everywhere and scary in the neighbourhood.

Smelly, Dirty, Unhygienic Rooms with Arrogant Manager

Dirtiest place ever I visited in my Life. Worse Smell welcomes you upon the entrance. Lounge/Kitchen/Rooms in fact everything was smelly & poor. I had to check out within 30 minutes of check-in. They even did not refund the money back to me. Photos shown on the web are all fake, Hostal condition is even more pathetic and unhygienic. The receptionist guy misbehaved with me and disrespected me.He was so rude, and proud, having a cheap mentality. The funniest thing: he claimed that he is the owner of 85% of hotels in San Francisco. :D.I strongly do not recommend this place to book. And I would like to request booking companies to personally visit this place before sending clients there. I am attaching a sample photo of the poor room that I got but unfortunately, I could not record the arrogance of the guy that I faced.

Happy Daze at the European Hostel

This hostel is overpriced. At AUD138 or USD94 per night for a double bunk. The 14% tax and 2.25% city tax don't help. However it was the cheapest around central San Francisco. We stayed for 3 nights. The bunks were okay for comfort but there was nowhere to hang your clothes. The shared bathrooms were small, and again nowhere to hang you clothes, towel or toiletries when you were showering. However there was plenty of hot water; you just had to manipulate the taps! the communal kitchen/lounge area wasn't particularly clean. The hostel was close to a mini super market which served good coffee for breakfast and excellent bagels. there was a laundromat close by.

San Francisco is still a good town to visit despite the post Covid (almost) changes. Where you sleep and find rest and relaxation matters.It colors your trip. Obviously a hostel is a budgetary choice. There are the good , the bad, the just don't stay there. Only stay here if you're desperate. Seriously. I didn't read the reviews so I didn't realize what I was in for. I will never stay there again. Ever. Read all the reviews and believe the bad ones. Have a great trip to San Francisco though. It's worth seeing.
