    poor housekeeping

    rating02 May 2026

extremely bad room service. Shower had hair on the floor, the room was musty. daily housekeeping was extremely bad. You were lucky if they replenished supplies in the room.

Seriously, Vote with Your Feet. Go Somewhere Else

    rating24 Jan 2026

In a nutshell: GO SOMEWHERE ELSE. VOTE WITH YOUR FEET!I'm a long-time Platinum Marriott member and I don't give negative or bad reviews lightly since I'm more forgiving (perhaps too forgiving) of shortcomings because I'm also a Scout Leader used to camping in more "austere" conditions and simply appreciate a clean bathroom and private room vs. tent. The hotel management pulled a classic "bait and switch" and I am sufficiently disappointed and outraged to post this.In a nutshell, don't bother staying. I'm very deeply disappointed with this particular location. I've stayed here before several times to move my son back and forth from UCB over the years. The front desk staff seem nice, but the only PUBLIC elevators are broken. Apparently, the elevators have been broken for nearly one (1) month and yet there is NO notification prior to showing up that the elevators are out of service. I had recent spine surgery and have significant difficulty going up and down stairs. My room was on the third floor because my physical condition requires a larger bed to get in an out of with the help of my wife.Sure, I can walk up and down very slowly, but had I know the elevators are out of service, I wouldn't have booked a room for the night. We were moving our son back to UCB for the spring term and showed up late at night. While not a saving grace, the kitchen and cafe staff are very nice and go out of their way to help. The morning coffee is good and the breakfast is decent, but nothing exciting. To Management and to future travelers, it appears this location fails to get that the most fundamental "amenity" a hotel can offer is information. Information about the PRESENT condition of the hotel at booking. The fact that the elevators have been out of service for almost a month itself is frightfully concerning. The unwillingness to have Marriott/Bonvoy flag the location with physical location deficiencies is fatal. The whole point of booking and being a member of Bonvoy is so that the paying customer knows about the present/ongoing condition of the property when there is something broken like insufficient water, no bathrooms, no elevators, no food service, etc. Failure to do so means the "partner" hotel management elects to take in reservations and leaving the paying guest high and dry at the time of arrival. This is literally bait and switch tactics. Go somewhere else in the area. Even if they "fix" the elevator, they still need to fix their attitude toward paying guests about honesty and integrity. And I mean this. This is flatly dishonest behavior.FYI. The king bed was very lumpy. Obviously, they need to change the mattress and per my wife, the prior stay she also had a lumpy double mattress. Poor maintenance = dissatisfied customers.Wait for the canned "response" from the hotel saying they are sorry and will try better in the future, blah blah blah. I mean this very sincerely when I write, don't bother staying here. The elevator was broken for nearly one (1) month (and ongoing still) and they aren't openly notifying or reducing the rates to reflect the poor physical plant conditions. From hotel management - Blah Blah Blah... so sorry... didn't meet expectations... try better next time.VOTE WITH YOUR FEET. GO SOMEWHERE ELSE. Maybe the hotel management group will get the message and start treating guests as "guests" and not chumps.

    Great location and comfortable rooms

    rating13 Nov 2025

Great location, very comfortable room/bed (we had a corner room) and breakfast was very good. The staff doing breakfast was excellent. Hotel was clean and comfortable. Free parking and internet. The only downer was one of the elevators was not working so there were some delays, but no biggie.

    A pleasant surprise

Beautiful bright lobby and front staff. Room was really clean and spacious. Lobby was inviting for a sit-down or to get work done. Well located near restaurants and shopping and close to the university.

A good hotel, but room for improvement

    rating21 Sept 2025

Nice spacious room which was very comfortable. The balcony was nice and had a view of the city lights. The hotel was conveniently located next to a Trader Joes for some simple groceries for my in room fridge. The neighborhood was safe to walk around in, but it was close to an outdoor mall, so if that is not your thing, you may not like that. It is also close to The Public Market which had a lot of food vendors - I would highly recommend going there. The hotel itself, while comfortable did not offer many amenities. So, for my purpose, it was fine as I was on personal business. However for a vacation, I would want a nicer private bar (the bar is in reception), breakfast included or room service for food, maybe a spa nearby if not on site, accessible jacuzzi (the jacuzzi was closed for construction). The pool was also closed, but I could see that it was right next to the parking lot and seemed ok. The restaurant menu was not in the room, it would be nice to have the menu up there. Overall, this was a good value for the cost.
