    The judge a motel by the cover, it’s what’s inside that is important.

    The room conditions are terrible and pose a health hazard. The conditions have been reported to the hotel staff but in a stubborn manner refuse to do anything to address the issue, but instead concentrate of unimportant details, such as when I reported the issues, semantics that are besides the point. They choose to ignore the seriousness of the room conditions at the expense of their guests!

    When booked, thought the price was about $78, but turned out to be over 220. pnight. Too late, because booked on website and couldn't cancel upon arrival. No ice, very old building, paint chipped, dirty spots on the wall, lukewarm water never got hot. Good location in SF, and it had parking lot; but there are much better places to stay for that price.     AWFUL. DIRTY. UNABLE TO GET MONEY BACK. One person agrees to something, then manager doesn’t like it and tells staff not to do what they had agreed on a few days prior when reservation was done. Manager refuses to come out and speak to guest. Never !     Stole my credit card information

    Paid with a credit card that hadn't been used for anything else recently. The night after we checked out there were five fraudulent attempts to use that card (two were for under $1 - clearly a test to see if it would work). Had to cancel the card and am waiting for a new one to be sent to me.Tried twice to report this to the manager. Front desk clerk said he was sometimes around, sometimes not. Insisted on knowing why I wanted the manager and I finally told him "a front desk problem" since I suspect that's where the credit card info got stolen. Not totally surprised that I haven't been called back. Who knows if the manager got the message?Maybe he'll find out about his security problem by reading this.     Great value for San Francisco

    I stayed two nights at the Van Ness. It was a great value for San Francisco. The cost for the room wasn't much more than what I paid for the daily parking at a downtown SF hotel where I stayed on my last visit. At the Van Ness, parking is free, which is a real bonus for San Francisco.The room was clean, comfortable and quiet. I had a bit of trouble with my TV, but the manager came to my room and helped me to get it working. The location is very good, within walking distance of Fisherman's Wharf, Russian Hill, and other sites. - although you sometimes have to walk over very steep hills to get where you are going!A great place - I would stay here again.
