    Disappointing

    rating05 Jun 2026

We were very much looking forward to our stay here. From the pictures, it looked like a cute and charming Victorian style hotel at a reasonable price. Unfortunately, we were disappointed from the moment we walked into our room. There was a strong smell of mildew in the room and the window faced another wall. The wallpaper was bumpy on the wall that faced the outside so I’m assuming it was from water damage. The sheets were clean but old. Mattress was way too soft and I woke up with a back pain. Bathroom was also clean but old with rust around the drains. Mirror in the bathroom was also old with edges worn off. The breakfast was the most depressing part of it. The room smelled like school cafeterias with not a lot of choices. No fresh coffee in the breakfast room; only a machine with mediocre coffee. The location was also not great. Far from everything and the bus nearby was infrequent. It’s not a cheap place so I expected much better quality. We had prepaid through Expedia so couldn’t leave and get a refund. We also couldn’t move to a different room since the hotel was all booked with a conference taking place nearby. From the other reviews, it seems that management gets defensive when there are critical reviews. It would be nice if they fixed up the place a bit instead. Staff at the front was lovely so it’s a shame that the place itself wasn’t.

    Comfy stay

    rating30 Jan 2026

Just returned from spending two nights at this beautiful Victorian. The esthetic isn’t for everyone but for those who love vintage it’s a nice stay. The bed and pillows were comfortable. Great water pressure in the shower. The daily breakfast is a nice touch, loved the waffle station. Didn’t attend an afternoon tea but am sure it’s just as nice. Forgot to get the name of the guy working the front desk during the day who helped give me directions and welcomed me with a warm smile, he makes a great first impression. If I get the opportunity to return to San Francisco I would definitely stay at the Queen Anne hotel.

Queen Anne Hotel in SF review

    rating27 Sept 2025

I don’t have anything negative to say about our stay at this hotel. Location is excellent, room comfortable, staff friendly and the complimentary daily breakfast and cookies are awesome. Continental breakfast consists of waffle station, assorted muffins and breads including bagels. Some fruit and hard boiled eggs as well as coffee and juices. Our room (#416) didn’t have a mini fridge but there is a liquor store that’s conveniently located across the street. Staffed 24 hours a day, I felt safe in the building as well as the surrounding areas. Parking isn’t bad at $30 a night but we didn’t have a car for more than a day so it didn’t affect us. There is free street parking on the street but check the hours so you don’t get a ticket! Overall, my husband and I had a great stay and would absolutely stay here again next time we visit SF. My only critique is that I wish the coffee provided was of better quality. Other than that, pretty perfect stay.

Queen Anne's glory days are long gone

    rating27 Aug 2025

Hotels usually treat solo travelers badly by giving them the worst rooms, and the Queen Anne does too. My room was really run down with the filthiest carpet I have ever seen, a view of a wall, next to a noisy staircase and it had a really musty smell. The musty smell was probably from the mold I saw growing on the wall (see pic). The breakfast is terrible, the neighborhood is iffy. They advertise Gilchrist and Soames products, but they don't provide them anymore. On the plus side, the downstairs lounge is beautiful.Won't return and don't recommend it for solo travelers.

Great hotel in great location (Japantown)

    rating06 Jun 2025

We enjoyed two nights here in June. We got two different rooms, both with two beds, but one room was slightly larger than the other, with the consequence being that the larger room had a king bed and a queen bed, whereas the smaller room had two queen beds. The service was excellent, and the location is terrific. The hotel is a little old, but it adds to the charm, and we found it to be clean. The breakfast was certainly nothing special, but it was nice to have it every day from 7 AM until 9:30 AM included with the price of the room. The coffee was not very good. The lobby was well decorated and cute. The building is old and charming. Free parking less than a block away outside. A very short walk to the Japan center.
