  Desk Clerk Didn’t Care

  The motel was clean and the location was convenient for our flight. Our television remote wouldn’t work. Not being able to watch television is a minor thing for sure but the desk clerk not only did nothing to help but refused to even try. We asked to change rooms but she said the hotel was completely full despite the parking garage being half empty. She simply was not concerned and had no interest in trying to remedy the problem. No TV is certainly a First World problem but if you’re stuck in a room all night, it makes the stay less pleasant. We would have appreciated some help or concern.

  Awful!!

  This hotel is a complete scam. The room reeked of mildew the second we walked in. Everything was filthy, worn out, and poorly maintained, and the bed looked like it had barely been made. We found obvious water damage and mold issues around the tub/shower area (photos attached), clearly the source of the smell.I immediately asked for a different room and was told, unbelievably, that every room was already occupied, only 45 minutes after check-in started, with an almost empty parking lot and no visible guests anywhere. The front desk refused to move us or help in any way.When I said the room was unacceptable and needed to cancel, they refused to refund me and claimed only a manager, who she claimed wouldn’t be back for two days, could do it. We had to leave and pay for another hotel ourselves.They knowingly rented out an uninhabitable room and then trapped us into paying for it. Avoid this place at all costs.

  Zero Compassion in a Crisis. Policy Over People

  We planned to stay at Villa Montes on December 26th-28th. On the morning of our check in, my cousins, who were driving from Southern California to SF, was involved in a car accident during the atmospheric river rain storms, forcing us to cancel the trip.While we were aware of the standard 50% cancellation policy, we believed a dire situation caused by dangerous weather would warrant an exception. We submitted a request to Villa Montes for a full refund. Their response was a cold denial, offering no compassion, only a rigid reference to their policy.We contacted Airbnb Customer Service as a result. Airbnb contacted Villa Montes on our behalf and they refused the full refund again. Thankfully, the Airbnb support agent was empathetic and issued a $50 refund from Airbnb’s own funds.We are highly disappointed and frustrated. Villa Montes has demonstrated that their policy is absolute, even when guests are dealing with the aftermath of a weather-related accident. They have shown that protocol outweighs any basic human understanding during a traveler’s crisis.Beware: If your travel is disrupted by an uncontrollable emergency, do not expect the slightest flexibility or empathy from the host. You are a transaction, not a person to them.   Start with positives: It's easy to get to and to park; the hotel has a lot of stylish touches.Too bad our room's heat didn't work. The front desk staff seemed powerless to provide information about getting it fixed. The maintenance staff brought us a small space heater.The provided breakfast was as basic as it can get, and one day I got there at 9:45 and staff were already putting things away.The workout room is a joke.Here are some tips for staff: if you remove dirty towels, replace them at the same time. If you see that there isn't a spare roll of toilet paper, provide it.Also annoying is the bathroom door that closes by itself. But the worst is the jets flying overhead. At least earplugs are provided!   Hated it. Would never go back

  How this place gets over 4 stars is beyond me. One of the worst places I have stayed. First off, there was a serious family problem...stroke...which removed my reason for even driving up there but they refused to cancel; so I drove over 700 miles round trip so as not to incur even more expenses, renting yet another room mid-trip. I could hear the people upstairs. The elevator from the garage would not come, so I had to drag my suitcase down the street and enter another way. Pool was drained so could not use that and there were no other amenities. No water in the room ($2.75 a bottle in a machine on the floor below); manager was rude and threatened to kick me out because I complained about them not cancelling. (I can see why. Almost no one staying there.) It's on a regular thoroughfare so noise from that as well. The mini-fridge rattled off and on all night, even when I turned it off. The clock was broken.
