Great Location, Breakfast Not Free as Promised, Room Had Issues

    rating15 Feb 2026

We stayed at this hotel after a doctors appointment in the Bay Area. I was upgraded as a Gold elite. Member and check-in was fine. I was told that check-in we would have a free breakfast from 7 to 10 AM. I was told this included breakfast sandwiches, yogurt, etc.We checked in to our room, which was already upgraded, but surprisingly small. I had to use the bathroom and noticed the sliding glass door would not budge.I called downstairs and was promised to be moved right away. After waiting a few minutes, I went downstairs to check and there was a line. There was only one gentleman working. He was very nice and upgraded us to the fourth floor into a little larger room. The room had no issues other than it was very dark and hard to see in the closet and in my suitcase. There was no overhead lighting in the room whatsoever. The only lighting was two bedside lamps. The bathroom was very sleek at the expense of functionality, however. I noticed the hairdryer was stuffed behind the mirror in an awkward kind of position because there were no drawers in the vanity. It was just one piece of solid surface material wrapped on three side sides. I also found the shower to be poorly designed with a very low seat and a hook right next to the swinging glass door that hit your clothes or towel if you chose to utilize the hook. The vanity area was awkwardly off center as well.I went downstairs and ordered two breakfast sandwiches, a bagel with cream cheese, and noticed the yogurt was locked in a refrigerator.I went to the front desk to see if I could get a yogurt for my husband. The woman working there unlocked the yogurt cabinet and said that yogurt parfait was not included as part of the free breakfast. OK no problem and I went ahead and took one out of the refrigerator. The breakfast sandwiches were very good, and my husband was pleased with the bagel and yogurt parfait. He hadn’t eaten much the day before as he had had a medical procedure, so he had a big appetite. When we got home, I noticed I was charged for one of the breakfast sandwiches, the bagel and the yogurt parfait.I called the following day to try to get credit for the items I was charged for incorrectly. The woman explained that only one breakfast item per room was to be included in our stay. I felt it was quite ridiculous that two people were staying and only one breakfast item was included for a Gold member! So I paid the $30 for the three items-the breakfast sandwich, the bagel and the yogurt parfait.I probably will not return to this hotel. It was just average in my opinion and I don’t like being told misinformation upon check-in which changes once you check out. Small rooms, good location

    rating24 Nov 2024

Sunnyvale hotels are not great in general, and the Aloft is good mainly because of its location near South Murphy Ave and also very close to my office. The rooms are quite small though, unless you have an upgrade. There is a gym, and they do have happy hours and free pop corn which is a nice touch. Excellent location in San Jose metro. Close to Caltrain station and lots of restaurants and bars. Service was awesome. Great for central location to other attractions in region. Rooms are comfortable and bathrooms are spacious. About a 20 min Uber ride from San Jose Airport so convenient for that as well. Pleasant Front Desk People, Spartan Rooms

    rating06 Oct 2024

No decor, thin towels, small rooms, minimal toiletries that are not replaced. We asked for room cleaning; they only came once during our 3-night stay. Elevator broken and we had to drag suitcases down 4 flights. We are loyal Marriott, but would avoid this hotel.

Room does not have window or working a/c. And I’m a status member.

    rating17 Aug 2024

No one should ever have to stay here, Save yourself the stress and hassle and just book the AC hotel down the road . The only reason I chose this place was b/c of the walking proximity to Caltrain to scoot me to SFO.For starters, Gold Bonvoy status does not even get you a room with a window. I’ve never been in a brand name hotel where there was no windows. The outline of where a window should be was there but this property has it boarded up with plywood. So, no window. No natural light at all in an already dark shoebox of a room. Next there appears there is no window b/c the hotel doesn’t have built in air condition. So the room has an external unit that is piped through the plywood. Here’s the worst part: That a/c unit doesn’t work, it was roasting hot in the tight little shoebox with no air conditioning, no ventilation and no window to potentially crack open . We went to the front desk and they refused to move us citing, “There’s one room available and it’s on your floor but they won’t let me assign it to you.” Marriott Corporate was no help either. In fact, they offered us “5000 points” which is actually about 1/8 the points this hotel goes for and when we said that was ridiculous they rescinded the offer. We didn’t want points. We wanted a room with air conditioning and a window in the middle of Summer. I don’t think that’s too much to ask for. While we didn’t have a car, they could’ve easily relocated to another nearby property and gory us a taxi there but nope… they refused. Front desk agent said she would call us with a solution and never called. The conditions we were subject to in this hotel were inhumane and probably not up to code either. There are signs everywhere that this property is in ill repair. The operating certificate in the elevator is expired, overhead lamps in the hallway have strings disconnected from ceiling so they are dancing by a thread, lots of wall damage in hallway and cracks in floor in room.Outside of all these complications, the standard rooms often little amenities. There is no fridge in the room and not even a garbage can in bathroom. The rooms are so small that there is no spot to even open up your suitcase fully, it Diesnt fit in the armoire or on the bench in the room. We had to get creative and put our suitcase under the bathroom sink on the floor. I’ve attached pictures to support this. This place should just close down or be shut down by local government. Way to treat Bonvoy status members: no window, no air and no support when you request to move b/c the room is a sauna.
