  Classic hotel but poorly lit rooms

  This was my first time at the Hayes Mansion. It is a classy old hotel and I thought the room had a lot of charm. But the lighting was terrible...just two dim lamps on either side of the bed and a hanging lamp over the "sofa". At night, it was very difficult to see anything on the TV side of the room (opposite the bed.)I called the front desk the next morning, and a man answered who attributed the bad lighting to "ambience" and said I could have requested a lamp to be brought over. Huh? I'm all for ambience, but not at the expense of poor lighting! (And, of course, if there was sufficient lighting and one wanted "ambience", you could just turn off some of the lights.) I was surprised at this issue given the affiliation with Hilton.One other thing: not every floor had an ice machine. ( I was on the first floor but had to go the 2nd floor to get ice.) Not a major issue, but an annoyance; I think good practice is to have an ice machine on every floor unless there are logistical issues where this is not viable.   Memorable Family Wedding Weekend at Hayes Mansion

  Here’s a polished version that keeps your warmth and constructive tone:My family and I came together at Hayes Mansion for my niece’s wedding, and overall, it was a wonderful stay.Check-in was easy. There was a small issue with the upfront billing, but Jackie handled it with style, grace, and professionalism.The property itself is in a great location: close to SJC airport, good food options, and easy travel access. Downtown San Jose is also nearby.The restaurant was better than some of the reviews suggest. I had a chicken sandwich with fries, and it was excellent, especially for the price. There was only one waiter available, and he did a stellar job. In my opinion, the restaurant could benefit from more staffing, but the service we received was strong.The staff throughout Hayes Mansion were helpful, courteous, and professional. Kudos to the team.The rooms were the only part of the stay that drew some mixed comments from people in our group. In some rooms, the central AC seemed to work well; in others, there was a local unit, which made already modestly sized rooms feel a bit smaller. That said, the rooms were manageable for a couple or a family of three. Some second-floor rooms also had accessible balconies with really lovely views, which is a nice bonus for guests who value that.I used the gym, and it was A+. Large, clean, and well equipped for both cardio and strength workouts.What really set Hayes Mansion apart was the value.   well appointed and well cared for hotel!!

  Easy to get to and centrally located. Lovely, stately and well kept atmosphere. In general I loved this well appointed and well cared for hotel. Room exceeded expectation at a decent cost. Hotel and rooms well kept. Very little noise. Service was very good from all… especially Sousa… who always seems to be near when I needed assistance. All staff were kind and considerate! Restaurant food was good, but off a very limited and esoteric lunch and dinner menu. Breakfast offerings were disappointing and seemed to be about what would expect get from an economy motel chain breakfast. If staying for more than a day or two, one is forced to rely on going out or Uber eats deliveries. Hope to visit Hayes in the future!   Beautiful. Quiet, and Relaxing Stay Our room was very clean and comfortable. The staff was friendly and anything we needed was supplied kindly and quickly (extra towels, coffee, etc). There are so many places to sit and relax both inside and outside. A few more loungers at the pool might be nice when the hotel is busier. You would probably want a car when staying here since nothing is really in walking distance but there are trails in an adjacent park for nice nature walk.
