A very nice and quiet hotel!

    rating09 Dec 2025

I have stayed in this hotel many times before, but that was mostly under previous ownerships. With the change to the Sonesta chain, actually not much has changed and I still consider this hotel to be among my favorites. The recently completed renovation is a big step forward. Everything looks very nice and modern, but this hotel still has the cozy family kind of atmosphere that I've always enjoyed. The rooms here are more like apartments. Mine was spotlessly clean, had a living room, a full kitchen, a separate bedroom, a bathroom with a bathtub and shower integrated, plus a walk-in closet. There is definitely plenty of space to store your belongings and thanks to the kitchen, including a large fridge with a freezer compartment, it is very suitable for an extended stay. This includes cooking your own meals, as I've done several times. The outdoor pool area is lovely. There is plenty of seating in the courtyard area, but my favorite place was to use one of the chairs next to the pool to relax and read a book.Another thing that stands out is the complimentary breakfast! This is very extensive with high quality and fresh made food items that also vary across the weekdays. It is totally unlike the typical complimentary breakfast in many hotels and it is a true joy to enjoy this at the start of the day.One of the outstanding differentiators are the people though. Across the board, the staff was very friendly and helpful. They really make a difference!Having said all of this, is there nothing to improve? I think there is.To start with, the way the self laundry is organized is overly complex and very inflexible. I've never experienced something like this and hope it can be improved. It already starts with the need to install an app, yes just because you want to do your laundry. As it is, this app requires a US phone number though. If you don't have one you can't use it. Luckily, the reception is there to help, including the sign up sheet to schedule (!) your laundry. On top of that you pay $US 4 for a wash and $US 4 for the drier. In itself, I don't mind paying for this service, but $US 8 is too high. You also need to pay for parking. It costs $US 9 per day, with a maximum of $US 45 per month. Given this hotel is in a secluded area with sufficient parking capacity, I find this silly. It also used to be for free under the previous ownerships and I don't see why this had to be changed. The seating capacity for the breakfast is not sufficient on busy days. In particular on the weekends. Also because with 2 hours, the breakfast time is not that long. It can easily happen that there are no seats available. I think that there is enough headroom to increase the capacity and hope that this can be improved.Having said all of this, I will definitely return to this hotel whenever I'm in town! Guest Services, Owner at Sonesta ES Suites Sunnyvale, responded to this review Hello,I'm sorry for your experience. To be clear, the issue was not that we did not have rooms available, the issue was that you arrived at 4am and we were sold out the night prior, hence, no rooms available for early check-in. I will reach out to the 3rd party you booked through and request a refund, as a one-time courtesy. You can also request they email me directly regarding this at carlos.claudio@sonesta.com. Thank you.Sincerely,Carlos ClaudioGeneral ManagerSONESTA ES SUITES SUNNYVALE

High crime area! It's a no for me!

    rating28 Feb 2024

Rooms are nice. Staff is rude. Homeless shelter is just across the street. The negatives FAR outweigh the positives. The rooms are nice and well equipped but really dated carpet that gets your feet dirty and older furniture with obvious wear is a distraction. But way is really concerning is the homeless shelter across the street complete with tarp city outside for those who don't want to follow the shelter rules apparently. There is a fire truck or ambulance out each and every night. They charge $5 per night for a supposed security service that we did not see once. I work off hours, so coming and going was terrifying.Went to the close McDonald's. Parked just down the street, and quite literally there was a shooting within 20 feet of my car. Evidently drug deal gone bad (according to the news)Just really in a bad area of town. I would not feel secure staying here ever again.. SonestaESSunnyvaleGM, General Manager at Sonesta ES Suites Sunnyvale, responded to this review Greetings 777minat, we sincerely regret to hear about your experience. A great hotel

    rating09 Dec 2023

This is a great hotel and I enjoyed my stay very much. The staff was really friendly and helpful. The room was spotlessly clean and very comfortable. I liked the spacious kitchen area for example. It essentially had everything needed for a pleasant extended stay. The breakfast buffet was very extensive. There was even rice available. The hotel grounds are also very pleasant. It is a courtyard setting and there are various places where you can sit outside. Including around the pool, but also in a separate seating area next to the pool for example.Having said that, there are things that I didn't excite me.For example, the $US 7 charge a day for parking. Really?! Another think that took me by surprise is the hefty fee for the laundry. The charge is $US 3 for a one time use of the laundry machine, plus another $US for the drier. So, that is $US 6 as a minimum. You also need to book a slot. That is very unpractical. You don't want to have your schedule dictated by that. In other hotels you just check and if there is no machine available, you come back later. I also think the machines are behind compared to what I've seen in many other extended stay hotels. The Wi-Fi was so so. The speed I measured was about 2 MB/s both for upload and download. I hope this can be improved.Another thing that should be improved is the too short breakfast hours. From 7-9am. Just two hours. I think 6:30-9:30 is more reasonable. Especially since the breakfast capacity is really limited. A couple of times it was packed with people and I ended up eating in my room. These are all things that in my opinion, are not what you would expect from an extended stay hotel. Luckily they are easy to change and improve. SonestaESSunnyvaleGM, General Manager at Sonesta ES Suites Sunnyvale, responded to this review We appreciate your comprehensive feedback following your stay at Sonesta ES Suites Sunnyvale. It's encouraging to know that you took pleasure in our spotless rooms, cordial team members, well-equipped kitchen, and extensive breakfast buffet. We also acknowledge your enjoyment of our tranquil outdoor seating areas. However, we are sorry to learn about certain aspects such as parking and laundry fees, Wi-Fi speeds, and breakfast hours that did not fully meet your expectations. Our team strives to ensure a comfortable and convenient stay for all, and we wish to assure you that your comments are invaluable in guiding our continued improvements. We're grateful for your constructive criticism and hope for the opportunity to serve you better in the future. Thank you.

One of the best places to stay hands down!

    rating19 Apr 2023

This Hotel is an extended stay type, and everything needed for a great stay is in your room. Cleanliness is everywhere, and it is located in a quiet, safe area. But the biggest asset going is the staff! They are always willing to go beyond the status quo to ensure the complete satisfaction of your experience here. If I may, Brittny A. is always in a great mood, operating in her role and it is indeed a pleasure to run into her. A genuine boost after a full day at the jobsite! I highly recommend this hotel, especially if your stay in the area is an extended one! -Chris I. from Florida
