Hotel not honoring the breakfast welcome gift benefit

    rating01 May 2026

This Westin will claim that since the restaurant is operated by a 3rd party, they are not required to provide free breakfast for a guest +1 as the guaranteed welcome gift for platinum and above. This is absolutely not true and, fortunately for me, it only took a couple days for Marriott to agree that it's a violation of the T&C and cut a $100 cheque. The hotel will no doubt continue to argue will loyal travellers about their greedy breakfast policy, but Marriott will eventually agree that the hotel is in the wrong, just like that did for me. John Laminero, Guest Services / Front Office at The Westin San Jose, responded to this review Thank you for taking the time on sharing us your feedback. As you read through the terms and conditions of the Marriott Bonvoy, Westin hotels are not required to have a club lounge. Hotels with restaurants not owned by Marriott are also not required to have complimentary breakfast. These terms and conditions are easily visible in the terms and conditions in fine print of the the Marriott Bonvoy website. Thank you.

    Wretched

    rating06 Feb 2026

Awful Hotel — ripped carpet in the room . Cobwebs on the dirty windows and the view is a parking lot this is the room reserved for Ambassadors, I cannot imagine what they offer regular guests I would avoid this Hotel at all costs . The worst Westin I’ve ever stayed in John Laminero, Guest Services / Front Office at The Westin San Jose, responded to this review Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us.Unfortunately, due to the Super Bowl weekend and our downtown San Jose location, availability of rooms with a view is extremely limited. While we truly appreciate your loyalty as a Marriott Bonvoy member, room upgrades are always based on availability at the time of arrival. We value your continued support and hope to have the opportunity to better accommodate your preferences on a future visit.

Terrible Experience – Not Honest, Safety Concern

    rating01 Oct 2025

Terrible Experience – Not Honest, Safety ConcernI stayed at The Westin San Jose because the Marriott across the street was not available. The property itself is quite dated—featuring old carpets, small rooms, and outdated TVs lacking streaming features. They did “upgrade” me to a room with a view, but it was just overlooking the street and distant mountains. The real problem started on my second day. When I returned to my room, I found one of my earrings damaged on the nightstand. It was a loop earring with pearl beads—broken metal, sharp edges, and several missing pieces. The next morning, I even found another bead under the nightstand, which made me suspect housekeeping had dropped it and accidentally run a vacuum over it, causing the break and sucking up some parts. When I reported it, the front office manager, John Laminero (jlaminero@westinsanjose.com), told me that housekeeping had already reported it as broken. That explanation makes no sense—on a carpeted floor, metal doesn’t just snap in half, and missing parts and beads don’t simply disappear. I escalated, but the general manager, Sapana Thapa(sthapa@WestinSanJose.com), also dismissed my claim, saying they “believe their staff of 20 years.” No investigation was explained, and no accountability was taken.I reported this to Marriott Consumer Affairs, only to be told again that they “believe the hotel.” I lost my earring, received no compensation, no apology, and was essentially accused of bringing a broken earring into the hotel myself. This was a terrible experience. The hotel management demonstrated a lack of honesty and responsibility when personal property was damaged under their care. Reading other reviews, I now agree—management at this property is greedy and not customer-focused. This hotel does not meet Marriott standards in any way, and I do not feel it is a safe or trustworthy place to stay. John Laminero, Guest Services / Front Office at The Westin San Jose, responded to this review Thank you for taking the time on sharing us your feedback. We hope you have a wonderful day.

Clean room that’s about it for this property

    rating24 Sept 2025

I wouldn’t be surprised if this hotel lost their Marriott flagship. The people who own and operate this hotel are complete scammers through and through and do not operate like a normal Westin or Marriott property would. When I checked in they only charged me deposit and didn’t fully charge me until days after I left. Super weird. But on top of that it also is absurdly expensive and gouging you for hundreds of dollars where they know there is no value. I recommend the Marriott across the street or four points Marriott to the right of this hotel. Because if you come here expect to be scammed and riddled with weird charges for mismatched poor service, tiny rooms that are hard to get in the door with your luggage, and no amenities or services whatsoever. Not unless you want to be charged into oblivion by whoever the greedy self owned manager of this building this is. Yuck. Stay literally anywhere else this is not your typical Marriott in terms of quality, price, or service. John Laminero, Guest Services / Front Office at The Westin San Jose, responded to this review Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us.We would like to clarify a few points regarding your concerns. A one-night charge was applied prior to your arrival to guarantee your reservation, as it was during a sold-out night. Our hotel is centrally located in downtown San Jose, and our rates are based on occupancy and are competitive with other hotels in the area.Additionally, please note that Four Points by Sheraton is managed by the same management team as The Westin San Jose.We truly appreciate your feedback and hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back in the future at one of our properties.
