  The Milo hotel is my longterm favorite hotel in Santa Barbara. The rooms are amazing, location is hard to beat. Atmosphere is great! Pricing is more than perfect. But most important to mention is the Milo staff ! All staff members are making my stay wonderful.   The WORST travel experience of my life!

  Last weekend The Milo provided me with the WORST travel/hospitality/customer service experience of my life. My husband reserved a room for the weekend to celebrate my birthday. The reservation was made well in advance because it was Labor Day weekend. Our check-in time was supposed to be after 4pm on Saturday, September 5th. We arrived at the hotel at 5:20pm and the receptionist tells us that the building in which our room is located doesn’t have any water and she can’t let us check in and has no idea when it will be fixed or if we’ll even be able to check in at all. I asked why no one called us to let us know and the receptionist LIED and told me the water problem just happened recently. In fact, another receptionist confessed that the water problem started not recently at all but at 11am: 6 hours earlier!The staff offered no assistance once so ever. My husband and I started frantically looking for a hotel room for that night…on Labor Day weekend. There was not a single room anywhere in Santa Barbara, Montecito, Summerland, Solvang, Los Olivos, Goleta, Santa Ynez, or even Bulletin! We searched on-line, we called multiple hotels that looked like they may have availability, but not one had a room on such short notice on a holiday weekend. Not even a motel room. Meanwhile I overheard the hotel employees talking amongst themselves saying “should we be calling other guests to let them know?”I again questioned the staff about their complete lack of assistance or care about the situation and that they were leaving guests stranded without anywhere to sleep. Maybe if we had been notified right away and started looking for a room at noon instead of 5:30pm we would have found something. Or better yet, maybe the staff should have called around to local hotels at 11am to help find new accommodations for all the guests the hotel was leaving stranded! All the hotel employee could say is “we’ll refund you free of charge.“ That is a direct quote. Free of charge?! You haven’t provided us anything for which to charge us! Nothing was offered to help smooth over the situation: not a free stay at a later date, not a meal, not even a bottle of wine. All the staff was able to “offer” was a shrug and an insincere “sorry” as if she was apologizing for canceling a dinner reservation and not completely leaving us stranded without anywhere to sleep for the night.We made weekend childcare arrangements. We made reservations for wine tastings and for meals. All of that was completely lost and the entire birthday weekend ruined because The Milo's staff lacked any compassion or professionalism in a situation that could have been easily avoided.I have stayed at The Milo 4 times and have always recommended it to friends but I will never stay there again. We are especially concerned by the conflicting information you received about when the issue began and by the lack of proactive communication and care in that moment. We are reviewing the timeline, our guest-notification process, and how the situation was handled at the front desk so we can address these failures directly. A refund alone does not acknowledge the disruption and disappointment caused.We understand why you no longer wish to return, particularly after four previous stays and your past recommendations to friends.   Avoid The Milo!

  Avoid the Milo! This is the worst experience my husband and I have ever had at a hotel.The Milo was listed as having a room block for a wedding my husband and I were planning to attend in Montecito over Labor Day weekend. We made a two-night room reservation several months in advance.When we arrived to check in on Saturday, September 5th, the front desk clerk informed us that they were having a plumbing issue in the building, and our room was not ready. As our first event of the wedding weekend was to start in an hour, we asked if we could be let into a room for a few minutes to change for the event. The answer was astoundingly “no”. I asked what Plan B was if our room was still not available after our event that evening and was told there was no Plan B! The front desk clerk took my cell# and said he would text us and let us know the status of our room.I heard nothing from the hotel during the event. I called at 9:30 PM when we were ready to return to the hotel for the night and was told the plumbing was not fixed.The hotel clerk did nothing to help with the situation, offering only a refund. It was Labor Day weekend, and we could not find a room at another hotel.We had no choice but to drive 2 ½ hours back to Los Angeles for the night!!Our wedding hosts were aghast at the treatment we received. The bride’s mother asked if we received the wedding gift bag that was waiting for their guests at the Milo. I replied that it wasn’t even offered…We returned to Montecito the next day to attend the wedding. We were able to get a room at the other hotel listed on the wedding site.I would not recommend staying at The Milo. This was the worst hotel service experience we have ever had - if it could be called service at all.   We were coming off dropping 2 kids at 2 different campuses, on 2 different coasts… I randomly chose the Milo, and boy, was it perfect. The lovely room, the gracious staff, the location across the beach, wine tasting, free bike rental, beach chairs, sitting by the outdoor fire pits… we loved it, we will be back!
