    Racism and discrimination at the Red Roof Inn

    I had an extremely troubling experience at this hotel that left me feeling disrespected, discriminated against, and unwelcome.When checking in, I simply asked when the hotel began requiring a security deposit. I have stayed at this property before and had never been asked to pay one. My question was not a refusal to pay—I was simply seeking clarification regarding what appeared to be a change in policy.Instead of professionally explaining the policy, the front desk clerk, identified as Shiv, immediately became confrontational and threatened to cancel my reservation and call the police. I found this response completely unnecessary and disproportionate to the situation. I had not raised my voice, made threats, or refused payment.Because I booked through Priceline, I contacted their customer service department for assistance. The Priceline representative attempted to contact the hotel directly, but according to the representative, the front desk clerk refused to answer the phone. After I ultimately paid the deposit, the clerk acknowledged that he had threatened to cancel my reservation and involve law enforcement.The most disturbing part of my experience occurred during checkout. The clerk stated, “We are doing better than you,” and further commented that they did not care about $50 and that I should not travel if I could not afford it. I interpreted these remarks as insulting, demeaning, and discriminatory. As an African American customer, I was particularly troubled by the context of these comments and the treatment I received throughout the interaction.I have stayed at this property in the past without incident. The primary reason I chose this hotel was its convenient location near my truck service shop and the truck stop on US-301, as well as its affordability. However, after this experience, I will not be returning.What should have been a simple question about a deposit policy escalated into threats, disrespectful comments, and conduct that I found discriminatory and unprofessional. I hope management thoroughly investigates this matter, reviews any available surveillance footage and reservation records, and takes appropriate action to ensure other guests are treated with dignity and respect.Based on this experience, I cannot recommend this property to other travelers, business professionals, or families.

    There is ZERO reason to be as rude as the woman handling the day business..the phone charger in the room I was in stopped working and my phone died. So no alarm. I tried to tell her that it was a malfunction in the room that caused me to be delayed and she didn’t want to hear it. Turned around & walked away while I was talking to her. So rude!!     Worst motel ever

    Nast, nasty, nasty

    I’m sure this will be rated 2/10, but they don’t allow you to rate it “0”. The pictures online, made the motel look clean. It wasn’t. It was disgusting. We booked it after hurricane Milton, because we knew our homes did not have power, and we wanted to get closer to our homes. The lobby was gross, but our room… nasty. Filthy comforter, sheets that looked used, nasty refrigerator, dirty floor, no internet. The air conditioner worked fine. The room temp was comfortable. We decided to go home and sleep in our home with no power, no air conditioning, rather than sleep here.     Do not do it! I don’t know who would give this a good review unless they are buying reviews. This is disgusting. Hopefully I can attach the coffee bar photo that sent us running & more than willing to sacrifice the deposit. And this is a public space. Horrible.
