Clean, quiet place with great management and staff who had our back while we cruised.

    rating02 Jun 2026

The location was quiet, the room and building was very clean and comfortable, there was a slight cleaning odor at first but a few minutes of running the ac took care of that, coffee was very good. We were there for a 7 day cruise and took advantage of their complimentary parking during the cruise and took an uber to the dock and back. The parking lot had numerous flood lights and a 24 hour desk attendant so figured the parking was as safe as any paid lot. Ehen we got back however the car driver side window had a sheet of plastic taped over it. I first thought it was a break-in but the manager said there was no broken glass, the window was just open. Since we couldn't be reached while cruising they took it on themselves to cover the open window with tape and plastic to protect the car ! We were very thankful for their concern and actions on our behalf and recommend this place to all.

    No!

Since I have a IHG credit card, I get a certificate on the credit card anniversary date for a maximum # of points to book a IHG-branded hotel. My certificate was about to expire, so I used it at the last minute to try and book a hotel. The nicer hotels required a higher amount of points, so my options were limited. There was only one review on TripAdvisor for this hotel in 2025, and it WAS NOT good. I should have heeded that person’s advice. Another reviewer had mentioned that in the past few years, the hotel has been renovated. So which is it? Which review to believe? I decided to take a chance and book for last night. Boy did I regret it after getting to the room. Why?The SMELL that hit my nostrils as soon as I entered the room. Mold? As the previous reviewer put it: MUSTY smell. And it never left the room; not even when I bumped the a/c down to 68 degrees. Is it in the wall a/c unit? Does it need a thorough cleaning? I don’t know the cause of the smell. Yes, this hotel has been updated. But if you have a decent sense of smell, you have been warned! As the previous reviewer noted, the white bath towels are not of good (not thick nor large) quality, and they have a grayish tint when compared to the bright, white bedsheet. Fortunately, there was no roach bomb smell; nor did we see any creepy crawlers in our room like the previous reviewer had mentioned. The fridge had an ice maker. The ice bin was empty, so that meant new ice would be dropping during our entire stay. I don’t think so! Not while I’m trying to sleep! It seemed there was no way to turn the ice maker off. My husband said it looked like the part that turns off the ice maker was broken. I figured a way to use a rubber band to hold it in place, so as to disable it. Otherwise, it would have been a LONG night. At 5 a.m., we heard a “knocking/tapping” on the wall behind our bed’s headboard. It lasted for maybe 5 minutes. I think it may have been from a pipe in the wall. Maybe the person in the room next to us was taking a shower? All I know is that the noise woke us up. Not good. There was a recliner with a small side table in the room, but we did not use it. Here is what you won’t get if you stay at this hotel:No swimming pool.No complimentary bottled water. No complimentary breakfast. No place to open your suitcase unless you use the bed or ironing board. No small dining table or a dining chair. Ok, it was for one night. Just a place to stay on the way back from a day at the beach in Galveston, But had I known then what I know now, we would have driven the 2-1/2 hours back to our house in N Houston rather than spend the night at this hotel. We have decided the IHG credit card is not very useful for us. We will be cancelling the card ASAP. There is a positive, though! The only compliment I can give regarding our one-night stay at this hotel is that the young lady named Denny (I don’t know the correct spelling; I don’t recall that she was wearing a name badge.) was so personable. She thanked us several times for being IHG silver elite members. She asked if we were aware that it is an extended hotel with no pool and no breakfast (We did know; but thanks for the “head’s up.”), and she stated the pet policy ($50 deposit) if you have a pet (We don’t.), along with a few more bits of hotel information. We appreciated her enthusiasm and good customer service. Not The One

I booked this for July 3rd and 4th, We checked in only to get to the room and it smelled like it had been bombed with roach spray. We go back to re rep desk, she walks back to the room with us opens the door and says 'I don't smell anything" She then puts us in another room. 205 - same smell not as strong, but more of a moldy smell. The towels were dingy and the shower curtain was dingy as well. Low and be hold here comes the roach, which explains the bombing smell. Nope they didn't try to fix the issue, they act as if it didn't existent. So - if you book, no breakfast, you get vending machines, roach bomb, moldy smelly rooms, roaches, and dingy towels, and shower curtains for 300.00 for 2 night - is not the one,There were no more rooms available due to the holiday IHG Service, Owner at Candlewood Suites Texas City by IHG, responded to this review Hi Daleetha F,Thank you for staying at the Candlewood Suites Texas City. We had two rooms, one for myself and my husband and the other for my daughter and her husband. Rooms were really spacious and pretty nice. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Has a nice covered BBQ area by the pool. Hotel was laid out pretty well with some amenities.
