5 stars in Foggy Bottom!! Hidden Gem!

    rating28 May 2026

Spent 25 days at this hotel for work, we had a block of 12-15 rooms. The staff from head to toe was absolutely excellent! The rooms are nice and welcoming, the front desk always accommodating, the valet service top-notch, housekeeping was always working hard. Great location, right in the heart of Foggy Bottom. Laid back vibe, super clean, great value, & I can't say enough great things about this hotel and staff. The manager Travis was always on point and always doing everything he could to make our stay as wonderful as possible! He should be recognized for his efforts! I have stayed a lot of places & this hotel will be on my list of places I will return, and our team will use in the future! Abdulla Almutairi, General Manager at ARC Hotel, Washington DC, Series by Marriott, responded to this review Dear Wanderer37039427568 - thank you for the wonderful feedback and the 5* review. On behalf of Travis and the team, thank you for your feedback and I hope to welcome you back soon. Sincerely,Abdulla AlmutairiGeneral Manager

    NOT MARRIOT STANDARDS!!!

    rating21 May 2026

Don't let the Marriott name fool you on this one. This is simply another "Patel Motel" operating under the Marriott brand. This is a VERY old hotel, recently furnished with typical furniture liquidation furnishings that smell of cheapness. How this property passes Marriott standards is beyond me. However, it has only been open under this brand for a couple of months so I am sure the Marriott name will not last long. Here are some highlights: Most Marriotts offer guest laundry machines. Usually laundry soap is provided for FREE and laundry cycles are $1.00 each. The Patels here have decided that soap will be charged for and each cycle is $4.25... making it over $10.00 for a simple load of laundry. The room had stains on the carpet. The lights are weird in the room (See attached photos) and look like they came from a second hand furniture liquidator. Definitely NOT Marriott standard. Valet parking is a racket here. I understand its Washington DC, but $60+ each night is simply INSANE... and don't even think about going to your car to get something out without an employee escorting you and watching your every move. Not sure what the deal with this is, but perhaps it's a way for the valet guy to possibly earn some more tips? Seriously... I worked in the hotel business for over 13 years and know how these Patels operate. They cut corners as much as they can seeking a quick profit at the expense of guests. Abdulla Almutairi, General Manager at ARC Hotel, Washington DC, Series by Marriott, responded to this review Dear Jason M,It is truly disconcerting to hear of your experience and I apologize that your overall experience did not reflect the overwhelming reviews we receive. As a Hotel in transition and working on bringing the identity of Basic Done Well after joining Marriott new Brand, Series by Marriott, I appreciate your feedback that will enable us to continue thriving and growing. We are delighted to have had the opportunity to address your email in a previous correspondence and I hope it shed light on some of the expectations that the Hotel and Brand stand for. Thank you for your candid feedback and if I can address anything further with you, I would be delighted to.Sincerely,Abdulla AlmutairiGenearl Manager

Nothing to see here, especially with poor lighting

    rating10 May 2026

I stayed in this hotel for a week. While I’ve spent hundreds of nights in Marriotts over the years I was unfamiliar with the Series brand prior to booking and solely booked based on location. After checking in I learned Marriott advertises the series brand as no frills hotels in city locations - and that described this hotel. This hotel is definitely low amenity and lacks the traditional perks of typical lower end properties like free breakfast. It also lacked basic room features like sufficient lighting, functioning AC, closet space, drawers, luggage rack and clock. The price of the room did not reflect the lack of basic amenities. For some nights during the week the standard room rate exceeded $300 / night. Additionally, you only receive 5 points per $1. I only stayed here because of its proximity to Foggy Bottom metro since I needed to easily travel to Virginia and within the city. The hotel is near the GW hospital and University for people visiting the area for that and is walkable to restaurants and Whole Foods. The hotel has a small gym, ice machine on the 8th floor, and a microwave in the lobby area which they moved from the snack shop to the seating area during my stay.I was given one of the smaller rooms on the floor across from the elevator which connects to a neighboring room. The setup was not conducive to a longer stay for a business traveler. The room size was ok but there was insufficient closet space and lighting. For closets there was only a small open unit that you can’t hang anything long on and there were no drawers which was inconvenient. The room did come with a small fridge, iron, coffee maker and hair dryer but didn’t have a clock or luggage rack.It was mid day when I checked in so I didn’t realize the lack of lighting till sunset. The only built in lighting is in the doorway and bathroom. For the main room there were two small hanging lights over each nightstand with incandescent bulbs which was impractical and did not sufficiently light the room. This lighting was also harsh with no lampshade if you’re sitting in bed.As others have mentioned, another drawback was the HVAC/AC which was loud and didn’t keep the room cool as it needs be flipped between heat and ac depending on the season. The room was set to 70 when I arrived but stayed at 74 degrees despite the fan constantly running. Since it was cold outside at night I opened one of windows that opened a little bit to cool down the room. However this window was difficult to open and close and would make loud noises when closing. The room HVAC items could also benefit from a deep cleaning as the AC and shower fan vent looked dirty and rusty. The front desk staff I encountered generally weren’t very friendly. It could have been the time of day as I left early in the morning and would come back later in the evening. The overnight staff in particular barely acknowledged guests and sat on their phones with the volume so loud you could hear it throughout the lobby area, which seemed unprofessional. A key is required to enter the lobby after 10PM but isn’t required to use the elevator, which seems like a security issue.Overall the hotel is fine if you need to stay in the specific neighborhood, but is not worth a premium price. If you can get it for under $200 (which is possible looking at the flexible booking calendar) it may be worth staying here. Abdulla Almutairi, General Manager at ARC Hotel, Washington DC, Series by Marriott, responded to this review Dear L K,Thank you for your candid feedback. It is disconcerting to hear of all the opportunities we missed on to ensure you have a satisfactory stay. I am disappointed that your experience did not meet the expectations nor reflect the outpour of positive experiences that our guests have experienced. I am delighted that we were able to address your feedback in a previous correspondence. Our goal joining an a new brand, Series by Marriott, is to ensure we deliver on Basic Done Well; I am sorry we did not meet your expectations.I would love to discuss further if you allow me besides our engagement previously. We wish you safe travels and hope we can turn around your experience in another visit if we have the opportunity to welcome you back.
