This attractive boutique hotel, with a unique decorative theme (red) is centrally located just a few minutes’ walk from the White House. Countless shops are also to be found in the immediate vicinity.

Facility

121 rooms and 16 suites are located on 10 storeys and can be reached by 2 lifts. English-speaking staff at the reception desk in the lobby are happy to answer any questions. A baggage storage service, a safe and a cash machine are available. Wireless internet access in public areas allows guests to stay connected. The tour desk offers assistance with booking excursions. The hotel has a range of facilities for guests with disabilities. The hotel has wheelchair-accessible facilities. A number of shops, including a supermarket and souvenir shop, are great for shopping or just browsing. A garden provides extra space for rest and relaxation in the open air. Guests arriving by car can park their vehicles in the garage (for a fee) or in the car park. Other services include a babysitting service, a car hire service, a transfer service, room service and a laundry service. A bicycle hire service provides all the necessary equipment for exploring the surrounding area. Daily newspapers are available for purchase. A business centre with fax machine and projector is available.

Rooms

Air conditioning and central heating ensure that rooms maintain comfortable temperatures. All rooms are carpeted and include a double bed, a queen-size bed or a king-size bed. Extra beds can be requested. A safe, a minibar and a desk are also available. A refrigerator, a mini fridge and a tea/coffee station are standard features. An ironing set is provided for guests' convenience. A direct dial telephone, a television with satellite/cable channels, a radio, a CD player, a games console, an alarm clock and WiFi (no extra charge) are provided as well. Bathrooms are equipped with a shower and a bathtub. A hairdryer, bathrobes and a telephone are available for daily use. As an extra convenience, bathrooms provide cosmetic products. Guests can also book wheelchair-friendly rooms with wheelchair-accessible bathrooms. The hotel has family rooms, non-smoking rooms and smoking rooms.

    The two-star review was designed for a place like Kempton Banneker. I'll start with the good. Their front desk staff is excellent. Check in was a breeze, the desk clerk could not have been more friendly and helpful. They cleaned my room. I'm only here for two nights, so they only had one chance to forget to clean my room, and they did good. Why then only two stars? At the ridiculous room rate one expects something special. They can sell the rooms at the ridiculous prices they do because other hotels get away with it also. I recently stayed down the street at a Marriott citizen M property, paid ridiculous room rate, but I at least I had a nice view of the Capitol building dome from my bed. The Kimpton Banneker has literally nothing special about it. The room is large and clean and reasonably comfortable. The bathroom has shampoo and conditioner and it smells good. But it's ordinary. My view out the window is of a back alley. There's a really attractive restaurant attached to the front of the hotel. But an artsy fancy restaurant is not a hotel amenity. The restaurant has a sort of Caribbean island vibe, but it needs a pool or something to complete the experience. And the 10 or 15% discount they give you is a joke. Mind you, I am not a penny-pincher, although you couldn't tell that by this review. But I spend a huge amount of time traveling both for work and pleasure. I love a comfortable hotel that has something special about it. I can live with mundane for about a third the price I paid for the Kimpton Banneker. Final note: IHG properties are usually not a disappointment. But never find yourself having to deal with their incompetent customer service on the phone. They are poorly trained. They aren't allowed to make any decisions. They have no sympathy for an American traveler with certain expectations, simple expectations. They read from a script. I've had crises ranging from checking into a hotel that has no hot water to having my reservation canceled during a transcontinental flight because the hotel couldn't reach me by phone. For this stay, I had to talk to them on the phone about my IHG rewards account. Angry and incompetent are gift words for the customer service agent that I dealt with. Thankfully, when I checked in, the desk clerk made it all better.

    Such a great staff. Helen at the restaurant was amazing with her service, kind demeanor and really could not be better. We ate there 3 times because of her. The hotel is beautiful and the staff is so pet friendly. Close to the tidal basin so the pup and I could walk or run there. It is truly wonderful to find a hotel that will accommodate my pup and still be beautiful and luxurious. We often stay at Klimpton because of this and will again in the future

    We recently stayed at the Kimpton Banneker and had a fantastic experience. It is a lovely boutique hotel with a perfect location for exploring DC—close enough to the action but with a sophisticated, intimate feel. The service throughout our stay was top-notch, but what truly stood out was the staff’s hospitality.A special thank you to Gozde, the Le Sel restaurant manager, who went above and beyond to make my daughter’s birthday extra special. She made everything possible to surprise her and truly made us feel like valued guests. It’s rare to find that level of personalized care.

    I was never made aware that parking fee to stay 4 nights would be $280.00 or $70.00 per night. Protested with hotel management but they simply didn't care.

    We enjoyed our stay. Room was huge and well appointed. Special mention to Chanel who was incredible with her friendly, exceptional service. The $25 amenity extra fee was a bit of a surprise so ask for free breakfast, free cocktail and dinner discount vouchers. The onsite restaurant was great - refined service and delicious food.
