Great central location for exploring all of Yellowstone.

    rating14 Nov 2025

Yellowstone is such a large park you need to stay inside if you can. Canyon Lodge is centrally located and it a great place to stay. The employees and management do their very best to make sure that you are a “happy camper.” The lodge has all the comforts of a modern hotel (no TV, of course!, and spotty WiFi) without having to rough it in order to get up close to nature and wildlife. Yes, the bison can appear right outside your back porch! On the front desk, Geoff, was a huge help getting us settled in, plugging in for WiFi, getting the room the way we wanted, and many other helpful hints. All this while being extremely busy at the desk. GM, Sam, was also helpful with a minor issue regarding our stay. The rooms are not real large, but the space is manageable for 2 people. It was comfortable and quiet.

Good location but average lodge on the expensive side

The upside is that this lodge is in a great location with views and wow factor drives to/from the property. The downside is that some access roads are challenging - especially at night! We arrived towards the end of the season and the staff seemed to already have one foot out of the door. The reception was not friendly or welcoming. We discovered that we are not keen on seeing so many animals hung on the walls. The room was as expected for this type of lodge with a small bathroom with nowhere to put anything. The food in the restaurant was good in the evening, we did not have breakfast. On check out I paid $25 cash for the Park Pass but a $25 hold on funds only dropped off after a month. I wrote an email to ask about this but didn't receive a reply.

Costs More But Worth it To Stay In the Park!

    rating02 Nov 2025

This is a lovely lodge and you pay a lot more than at a motel outside the park, but that's the point - you are IN the park! It takes a lot of time and gas to travel back and forth to West Yellowstone or Jackson or other towns. We opted to spend more and stay in the park so we had more time to explore in the park. The rooms were very nice and the clerks were pleasant and helpful. They told us what food was available because there are very few choices in the park. There's a small cafe in the Washburn Lodge that has packaged food the workers will heat up - breakfast sandwiches, pizza, burgers, etc. We had the breakfast sandwiches in the morning and they were quite good.I do wish breakfast had been included but it's understandable because of the effort a hotel in the park would have to make to have enough food on hand for guests. Meal vouchers for the local dining hall would have been nice but that's not a thing. We stayed in the Washburn Lodge and there are several others. The parking lot goes on FOREVER! If you're into collecting names of states on license plates, just walk through the parking lot at night! Don't miss the cute soap shaped like bears!

    LOCATION IS Key

    rating27 Oct 2025

You truly cant beat the location. This lodge is centrally located to many of the highlights in the park, and if you want to be out bright and early to see the wildlife, this is the place to stay. The drawbacks are the room smelled like mold and there was definitely mold growing on the bathroom tiles. The room was not very clean and definitely needed a deep cleaning and dusting. Since I suffer from allergies, I did some dusting and cleaning myself. In addition, the room had a sound coming from the walls that sounded like a gigantic coffee percolator. a sound that never stopped. We tried our best to ignore it and pretend it was white noise. For dinner, we ordered a pizza and sat by the fire in the main lodge. The two people who ran the grab and go counter were very friendly and it was a great way to meet fellow travelers. This place could use a deep cleaning, but it was worth the inconvenience for the ideal location.
