  Bad service from Front Desk and Restaurant Staff

  I recently stayed at Flamingo Cat Ba and, unfortunately, my experience was far below the standard I would expect from a property that promotes itself as a 5-star resort.During my stay in Building 1, I found the front desk staff to be extremely unprofessional and discourteous. It appeared that guests who booked through apartment owners rather than directly through the hotel were treated differently and with less respect. Since this is a business model offered by the property itself, guests should never be made to feel inferior because of the booking channel they use.When my butler presented my ID for registration, the receptionist did not process it immediately. Instead, she continued writing, spent time on her phone, and then casually told my butler to "wait." As a front desk employee, assisting guests who are physically present should be the priority. If serving guests feels like an inconvenience, perhaps hospitality is not the right profession.Throughout my stay, the front desk team was consistently unfriendly. Almost every time I passed by the desk, staff members appeared focused on their phones rather than on guest service. When I asked for information about the room and available amenities, the first response I received was, "I don't know, ask your butler." While I understand that I could contact my butler, I found this response unacceptable. Front desk staff should be among the most knowledgeable employees in the hotel and should be able to provide basic information or at least make an effort to assist guests.The restaurant experience was not much better. Upon arrival, instead of being greeted warmly, I was asked for my room number in a rude manner and immediately told that I would not be allowed to enter without a breakfast card. A simple greeting and a polite explanation would have been far more appropriate.The most disappointing aspect of this stay was not the facilities themselves. In fact, the property is beautiful, and I had positive interactions with the housekeeping staff and drivers, who were friendly, helpful, and professional. The issue lies entirely with the service attitude of some front desk and restaurant employees.My group spent nearly 10 million VND on accommodation and services, which is by no means a small amount. In return, we expected professional hospitality, not indifference and disrespect. A 5-star hotel should be defined not only by its facilities but also by the quality of its service. Unfortunately, the service I experienced fell far below that standard.I sincerely hope management takes this feedback seriously and provides additional training to ensure that all guests, regardless of how they book their stay, are treated with the same level of professionalism and respect.   Flamingo Beach Resort Cat Ba – THE best stay in Cat Ba

  We just got back from Flamingo Beach Resort and I can’t recommend it enough.The property itself is stunning — set right on the coast with that huge, sweeping view. What makes it stand out is the sheer range of amenities. There are multiple swimming pools for all ages, dedicated play areas for kids, a sky bridge that’s perfect for photos, and the sky top bar where you can watch the sunset over the bay with a drink in hand. The buffet breakfast spread was fantastic — huge variety, fresh, and they actually restock quickly so nothing ever runs out. But the real highlight is the private beach. Clean, calm, and you don’t have to fight for space. Our room was wonderful too — big, comfortable, and the balcony with the ocean view was the best place for morning coffee. Waking up to that view never got old.Special mention to Xuyen from the staff — she was of immense help through the entire planning and visit. She answered all our questions, gave great local info, and sorted our car bookings without any hassle. Having someone that responsive made the trip way smoother.If you’re heading to Cat Ba and want a resort that balances relaxation with things to do, Flamingo nails it. We’ll be back.   Don’t visit unless you want a headache

  The most amazing views however the hotel is very busy. If you are after a relaxing time don’t come to this hotel. Kids running around screaming. The staff do not speak English but most of them speak Korean. The tourists are also Korean. The outside pool is not up to a 5 star rating. Rubbish in the pool and the beach. Breakfast well if you want to have brekkie with screaming kids visit flamingo.   Frustrated and abandoned.

  Location is fantastic, view fantastic, but we booked on booking. Com and when we got there there was a complication with the booking. They could not find out booking and then they got the supervisor onto it but after about half an hour they said that we can stay there but we will have to pay cash 8.2mill vd which is very cheap on a world scale and very expensive in Vietnam, and I said "a huge resort has not got card facilities and established five star hotel?" So I made sure I had it wrong I he said yes correct. Then he said he would take me to the ATM on the back so we did. Thought the ATM would not allow that much to withdraw. Then my wife rang and said breakfast is an extra 2 million. And they do not accept cash. So then we just had to cancel. I don't know why he was so insistent on cash even to the point of losing the hole deal. And then on the way out we spoke to another guess that paid by card. So we can only give. Terrible.   Horrible checkin experience

  Horrible check-in experience. We had booked 2 × 1BR units at the property. After researching later, we realized that a 2BR unit was available at almost the same value as what we had already paid. Since we were traveling with our parents, we politely requested a simple room swap from 2 separate 1BRs to a single 2BR apartment for convenience.Despite the fact that we had already paid more than the actual value of the 2BR, the hotel staff still treated it as an “upgrade” and charged us extra money again. What made this even more disappointing was that nearly 75% of the hotel appeared to be empty, so there was clearly availability and flexibility possible. Instead of accommodating a reasonable request, the approach felt purely money-minded.Secondly, their own booking page clearly mentioned that kids stay free, yet during check-in they still charged us additionally for our child. For a hotel of this stature, such petty charges seriously damage the guest experience and the property’s image.The staff, especially the check-in manager, should be trained to be more courteous and guest-focused. Unfortunately, instead of being helpful and understanding, the manager came across as greedy and transactional rather than hospitable. Very disappointing start to the stay.
