No pretensions but avoid the restaurant!

    rating15 May 2026

A quiet beach resort without pretensions. The room was clean and functional, and good value overall. Went there mainly to get some swimming in. Some reviewers have remarked that the sea water there is affected by nearby waste outlets, but it's really not as bad as all that. None of the beaches around Phu Quoc (even the ones on the East coast) have the transparent aquamarine water found in the Tahiti islands, for instance. And the sand is almost brown, not even beige, which also darkens the colour. My only disappointment was ordering chicken and rice one day for lunch at their restaurant, which turned out to be simply rice with small bits of pork – yes, pink pork – in it – what a joke, and overpriced to boot. The choice of restaurants up the road is good and varied so there's no reason to put up with their pathetic restaurant – although surprisingly breakfast was adequate.

    Sea Star

    rating05 May 2026

Sea Star was quiet hotel just of the main street. Beach has a lot of trees for shade. If you want full sun you have pull sun beds forward. Ladies, on reception were lovely, friendly. Breakfast was ok some foods weren't hot enough. Butter for toast was like margarine which was awful and not in sachets, just cubed on a plate. They had pancake, omelettes and fruit was ok. Lunch and dinners were good. We stayed in superior Bungalow near the beach, that was good, but the shower wasn't fantastic. As a hotel on the hole I'd recommend, the price was reasonable, service overall was good and was central.

Nice place to relax and enjoy the sunsets

    rating28 Apr 2026

We had 4 nights in a Bungalow on the Beach Front. It was very enjoyable, the bungalow was nice, big, had a comfortable bed and good air conditioning. we took 100s of photos of beach and sunsets, it's a very pretty place, great for relaxing. Beware that you do not have a clear unobstructed view of the sea and horizon from your beach front bungalow: you'll find a lot of the view is palm trees, plus other people on sunloungers between you and the sea. The beach was kept clean. The sea water was not clear, but that's only to be expected due to the sand. The sea was lovely and warm. There was also a pristine swimming pool, which was not busy at all – possibly because there was very little shade there. Breakfast was excellent with many choices in a buffet style and freshly made omelets available. I cannot recommend an evening meal at their restaurant/bar as we found the service shockingly bad on the first evening when we tried it. There are many restaurants within easy walking distance. We enjoyed our stay here very much.

    Great Experience

    rating07 Apr 2026

Really enjoyed our stay at Sea Star.On arrival all the staff were friendly and welcoming and all the staff were which ever department they worked in.Our room, a beach bungalow was well positioned but could do with some updating and TLC. Couldn’t fault the food, enough choice to suit everyone. All in all a great stay made by lovely people.

    Abysmal

    rating03 Mar 2026

This was our 4th stay at this hotel but we were very disappointed this year, firstly they have removed all the TV's from the rooms which actually ruined our holiday as we like to go out for something to eat and go back to our room to relax and have a drink and watch TV, secondly the hygiene in this hotel is now abysmal we were there 3 weeks and they didn't change our bedding, there was blood on the pillows, the mattress was disgusting full of stains also the top sheet was full of holes and brown stains, there was something under the bed which I think was a sleeping mask which never moved in 3 weeks. The beach is a joke it says private beach, there are people literally sitting in top of you round your sunbeds from other hotels, the security guard wouldnt let them on the sunbeds but eventually he gave in and started charging these people, it was, shocking to watch obviously a corrupt security guard. People were smoking at breakfast should not be allowed, the breakfast is the only thing that's good about this resort it's superb but everything else let's it down which is such a shame as a beautiful beach with palm trees which is spoiled by non residents. Agoda says on there site there are TVs in the rooms and telephones it is false advertising as there is not.
