Things to do in Mauritius 

Mauritius is not only a beautiful place with beaches but an island with so many experiences to offer to all types of travellers. You want to explore the world, you want to have culture, and you want to have fun. Everything will be remembered; there are so many things to do, you will spend unforgettable moments here.

Begin with the beautiful beaches, such as Flic en Flac and Belle Mare, where soft sands and clear waters can lure you to swim, snorkel or just relax under the sun. In the water sport section, you may want to go scuba diving to see colourful coral reefs or go on a catamaran boat to see dolphins in the wild.  

Need some new landscape? Drive inland to see the Black River Gorges National Park. Hiking paths in this area culminate in cascades, green forests and spectacular vistas. Without missing a beat, Chamarel is home to the well-known Seven Coloured Earths and Chamarel Waterfall, two of the most photographed natural phenomena on the island.   

There is also a cultural side of Mauritius. Port Louis, the capital, is worth a visit, with its markets and street food, not to mention the chance to see the rich history of the island. You can stop at the Caudan Waterfront to shop and eat or continue to the Aapravasi Ghat, which is a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Families and couples will get a different experience when they visit the island, whether in sugar plantations, rum distilleries, or in botanical gardens like the Pamplemousses Garden. Spend your evening eating seafood in a restaurant right on the sea and observing the sun setting in the Indian Ocean.

History, Culture and Nightlife in Mauritius

History: Mauritius is a diverse and rich country with a long history. The Dutch took the foreground, then the French and then the British. The buildings, the ancient sugar plantations and monuments on the island can be identified by this colonial past. The Aapravasi Ghat, a UNESCO world heritage site located in Port Louis, is considered by far one of the most important historical sites that narrates the history of the indentured labourers throughout the 19th century. Walking through these locations also allows the person paying a visit to gain knowledge on the special history of this island.   

Culture: Mauritius has a rich, multicoloured culture comprising African, European and Asian cultures. This blend is transferred to day-to-day life, the music and festivals, and food. Sega is the folk music of Mauritius, played on high beats and frequently accompanied by dancing on the beach. Another characteristic of the island is its religious diversity, with churches, temples and mosques coexisting next to each other. Another attraction is local markets where there are spices, tropical fruits and delicious snacks such as dholl puri and gateaux piments.

Nightlife: Mauritius has something to offer to all kinds of travellers as far as nightlifegoes. Bars, clubs, and lounges with live music and dancing places in some of the regions, such as Grand Baie and Flic en Flac, are places where you can have fun during those bright evenings. Evening shows with traditional performances and cultural entertainment are common in resorts all over the island. You like quieter places; there are seaside restaurants with fresh seafood and tropical cocktails that would be ideal on a relaxing evening out by the sea.
