Corralejo (north): The island's liveliest resort, set beside the protected dune national park and its run of glorious Fuerteventura beaches, with a walkable old town, a good spread of bars and restaurants, and ferries to the islet of Lobos and across to Lanzarote. 

Caleta de Fuste (central east): The most family-friendly base on the island and the closest to the airport, built around a calm, man-made horseshoe bay with flat, shallow water, a marina, and two golf courses — a natural fit for holidays to Fuerteventura with young children. 

Costa Calma & Sotavento (south): Long, open beaches and steady trade winds make this the heartland for windsurfers and kitesurfers, with a string of large all-inclusive resorts strung along the sand. 

Morro Jable & Jandía (far south): The biggest resort beaches on the island, anchored by the kilometres-long Playa del Matorral, a lighthouse, and reliable late-season sun on the island's southern tip. 

El Cotillo (north-west): A low-key former fishing town with calm turquoise lagoons on one side and Atlantic surf beaches on the other — the quiet alternative to Corralejo. 

The dunes and the great beaches: The Corralejo Dunes Natural Park rolls for kilometres behind Grandes Playas, a run of white-sand Fuerteventura beaches that ranks among the finest in the Canaries, with shallow Atlantic water and space to find your own patch even in August. 

World-class wind and water: Sotavento, on the Jandía peninsula, is one of the planet's top windsurfing and kitesurfing spots; its shallow lagoon at low tide is ideal for beginners taking a first lesson and experts chasing speed alike. 

Inland Fuerteventura: A drive into the centre reaches Betancuria, the island's tiny former capital founded in 1404, and the Mirador Morro Velosa viewpoint, where the volcanic interior opens out in every direction — a side of the island most beach-based visitors never see. 

Wildlife and water parks: The Oasis Wildlife park near La Lajita combines a botanical garden with camel rides and animal shows, while the Acua water park in Corralejo keeps older children happy for a full day. 

Out on the water: Glass-bottom boat trips, diving in the clear Atlantic off Corralejo, and short ferry crossings to the nature-reserve islet of Lobos are easy half-day additions to any beach week.
