Cheap Holidays from Edinburgh to Iceland

For a budget-led trip from Edinburgh, the most useful bases are the towns where transfers are short and accommodation choice stays broad.

• Reykjavik: Cheap Resorts from Edinburgh: Kassiopi on Corfu's north-east coast is a charming fishing village with a sheltered harbour, tavernas serving fresh grilled seafood, and easy access to clear coves. Travellers flying from Edinburgh can find affordable package holidays here, with a relaxed atmosphere, a short walk to the waterfront, and boat trips to nearby beaches throughout the summer season. It is exactly the brief our Reykjavik holidays deals are built around.
• Akureyri: Akureyri, a long drive north of the capital, is a cheaper and calmer alternative for travellers who want a quieter base. The town is set on Eyjafjordur and offers a botanical garden, cafes and access to whale watching from the north coast. The trade-off is the distance, so you will need a car or a planned coach transfer to see the wider region. We find it works well for couples and families who prefer a slower pace. It is exactly the brief our Cheap Iceland Holidays deals are built around.
• Husavik: Husavik is a small harbour town on the north coast and one of the best-value places for whale watching in the country. The harbour is close to the town centre, which keeps local travel short and simple. Accommodation is limited, so availability can tighten in summer, and it is a long way from the capital by road. For a cheap, focused trip built around the sea, it offers excellent value.
• Vik: Vik is a village on the south coast that works well as a stopover on a self-drive route around the island. Its black sand beach and coastal walks give a lot of scenery for little cost once you are there. Choice of rooms is modest, so it suits travellers who book early and are happy with a simple base. It is a practical option when you want to keep your budget for activities rather than hotels.
• Hofn: Hofn is a fishing town in the southeast used as a base for glacier lagoon visits. It is more remote than the capital, so transport costs and driving time rise, but accommodation can be good value outside the busiest weeks. Its trade-off is limited nightlife and fewer services in the evening. We recommend it for travellers who are content with a quiet base and plan their trip around the lagoon.
