Last Minute Holidays from Edinburgh to Iceland

Our resort-style bases in Iceland suit travellers who want a settled place to return to between days out, and we have chosen each one for how it connects to the rest of the island.

• Reykjavik: Looking for last minute resorts from Edinburgh with sun, sea and easy access? Travelodeal has you covered with package holidays to Corfu, where Sidari's golden beaches, sandy coves and lively promenade make it a favourite with British families and couples alike. Direct flights from Edinburgh mean you can swap Scottish drizzle for Ionian sunshine at short notice, with ATOL and ABTA protection giving you complete peace of mind throughout your booking. It is exactly the brief our Reykjavik holidays deals are built around.
• Akureyri: Akureyri sits on the long fjord of Eyjafjordur in the north and is the largest town in that part of the country, so it offers a calmer alternative to the capital. Whale watching tours operate from the nearby harbour in the neighbouring town on the Skjalfandi bay, and the botanical garden and cafes give Akureyri a relaxed pace that suits couples and families. The drive between Akureyri and that bayside harbour is manageable, but the route is longer than many visitors expect, so you should plan for a full day of travel if you move between them. For a quieter northern base with easy access to whale watching, Akureyri is an excellent choice, and it is the same kind of relaxed, well-planned brief our Iceland holidays deals are built around.
• Stykkisholmur: Stykkisholmur is a small town on the western tip of Iceland's north-western coast, with a working harbour that serves as the ferry port for Breidafjordur bay. Its quiet streets and modest accommodation make it a peaceful base for travellers who want to slow down and explore by boat or on foot, the same brief our Cheap Iceland Holidays deals are built around. The main limitation is the limited choice of restaurants and shops compared with larger towns, so you should stock up before arriving. We suggest it for guests who prefer a village atmosphere and a short drive to dramatic coastal scenery.
• Vik: Vik is a small village on the south coast, set along the Ring Road and a long drive from the capital, which makes it a practical stop for travellers touring the island. The village is known for its black sand beach and for easy access to coastal walks, and its hotels suit guests who want a rural setting. Accommodation choice is limited, so booking early matters even at short notice, and winter weather can disrupt the roads. The same brief our Iceland All Inclusive Holidays deals are built around, nature close at hand and a quieter pace, is why we recommend Vik for those who want nature on their doorstep rather than city life.
• Husavik: Husavik is a small harbour town in North Iceland and the main base for whale watching tours that leave from its harbour. The town is compact, with the harbour close to the centre, and its dining and guesthouses keep the atmosphere low-key and friendly. Its remote location means fewer shops and transport links than in larger towns, so you should plan your own activities in advance, the same brief our Iceland Family Holidays deals are built around. For a holiday built around the sea and wildlife, Husavik offers a distinctive and manageable base.
