Couples Holidays to Maldives

The resorts below are the ones we most often recommend to couples who want privacy, a strong overwater offer and a clear reason to choose one atoll over another.

• Baa Atoll resort villas: Baa Atoll is a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in the northern central Maldives, and its resort islands sit within reach of the manta feeding sites at Hanifaru Bay. For couples, this means overwater villas with private decks, reef snorkelling from the steps and boat trips that can be booked as a shared experience. The trade-off is that transfers from the capital take longer than to atolls closer in, so we allow extra time in the itinerary. We rate it highly for couples who want marine wildlife as part of their romance rather than a backdrop to it. Maldives Beach Holidays
• Ari Atoll overwater escape: Ari Atoll lies just a short hop from the capital, so a speedboat or seaplane transfer gets you to your resort far more quickly than in the distant southern atolls. Many of its properties feature overwater villas, lagoon-facing spa treatments and sandbank dinners arranged by the resort, making it a convenient pick for a brief yet indulgent. Whale sharks are frequently spotted across the atoll, offering a memorable outing to plan around if you wish. We especially recommend it to couples who appreciate swift transfers without sacrificing seclusion. Maldives Luxury Holidays
• Huvadhoo Atoll seclusion: Huvadhoo is among the largest atolls in the Maldives and is more remote than the resort atolls near the capital, with quieter islands and a mix of resorts and local communities. Access is generally by domestic flight followed by boat, which adds time to the journey but rewards couples with fewer people on the beach. The overwater villas here are often less crowded than in busier areas, and evenings tend to be calm. We suggest it for couples who want seclusion above all and are happy to travel further for it. Maldives Adults Only Holidays
• Addu Atoll contrast: Addu Atoll, at the southern tip of the Maldives, offers a different kind of couples holiday, with causeway-linked islands, a distinct local feel and WWII-era history to explore between swims. It is a less conventional choice than the classic overwater resort, so the romance here comes from exploring together rather than from a single lagoon view. Transfers are longer and resort density is lower than in the central atolls. We recommend it to couples who want something a little different from the standard honeymoon.
• Malé harbour stay: Malé is the capital and the main gateway to the Maldives, and it is compact enough to walk in an evening. A short stay here before or after a resort island lets couples see everyday Maldivian life, eat in local restaurants and watch the harbour at dusk, away from the resort setting. Public areas call for modest dress, which is a small adjustment but a sensible one. We suggest it as a first or last night for couples who want the city as well as the sea.
