Maldives Holidays in April

Beach resorts are the heart of most April stays, and these islands show how different the sand and lagoon experience can be.

• Overwater villas in Baa Atoll: Beach Resorts in April on Corfu's east coast make a compelling case for an early-season escape. Ipsos Bay and the stretch around Dassia offer shallow, sheltered shoreline ideal for families, while the mild spring air keeps temperatures comfortable for walking the olive-lined lanes. Expect quieter sun loungers, lively tavernas beginning to open for the season, and sea temperatures warming steadily as the month progresses. It is exactly the brief our Maldives Beach Holidays deals are built around.
• Sheltered lagoons in Dhigurah: Dhigurah is a local island in the southern part of the Maldives' Alif atoll chain, with a long sandbank, reached by domestic flight and boat, and its shallow lagoons suit a slower beach day in April. The sandbank is exposed at low tide, so timing your swim around the tides makes a real difference. Whale sharks are seen in nearby waters, though sightings are never guaranteed. It is a quieter alternative to the busiest resort islands and suits travellers who enjoy a more local feel.
• Thulusdhoo: Thulusdhoo is a local island in Kaafu Atoll reachable by boat from the capital, known for its surf breaks and relaxed atmosphere. In April the season is generally calmer, so the surf is less of a factor for casual swimmers than it can be at other times of year. The trade-off is that beach facilities are simpler than at a private resort, and local dress and alcohol rules apply. We think it suits those who want a relaxed beach day with a local character.
• Private islands in Addu Atoll: Addu Atoll is the southernmost atoll, with causeway-linked islands, a larger local population and a distinct WWII heritage that sets it apart from the northern resort belts. Beach resorts here offer a different rhythm, with longer transfers and a more local backdrop in April. The sea is usually settled during the dry season, which suits gentle swimming and paddling. It is a good choice for guests who want history and a less typical island experience alongside their beach time. It is exactly the brief our Maldives Luxury Holidays deals are built around.
• Fuvahmulah beaches: Fuvahmulah is a single southern island set apart by its striking lagoon-like waters and unusual geography, reached by domestic flight from the capital. In April the drier weather makes the surrounding coast pleasant for walking and calm swimming, away from the busier resort routes. Facilities are more limited than on the private resort islands, so you should plan your stay around the island rather than expecting the all-inclusive resort setup, the same brief our Maldives Last Minute Holidays deals are built around. For those who want something off the usual track, it offers a memorable and quieter beach stay.
