Luxury Holidays to Iceland

Iceland's best-known bases combine easy access to the capital with sweeping day trips across the south and west.

• Reykjavik: Reykjavik is the obvious starting point for a luxury stay because the compact centre is walkable and its harbour, museums and restaurants sit close to hotel doors. Guests can spend an evening soaking in a geothermal pool and return to a quiet room without a long taxi ride. The trade-off is that the city is busier and pricier than smaller towns, so we recommend it for travellers who value convenience and nightlife. It is also the easiest base for organised day trips into the surrounding countryside. It is exactly the brief our Reykjavik holidays deals are built around.
• Akureyri: Akureyri is set on the long Eyjafjordur fjord in the north and offers a noticeably slower pace than the capital. Its botanical garden, cafes and waterfront walks suit couples who want scenery without crowds, the same brief our Iceland All Inclusive Holidays deals are built around. Godafoss waterfall lies within driving distance, and whale watching trips depart from the coastal town on the nearby peninsula. The main compromise is the longer journey from the country's southwestern hub, which we factor into the itinerary so that travel days stay comfortable and unhurried for you.
• Snaefellsnes Peninsula: The Snaefellsnes Peninsula is a quieter region in west Iceland, roughly two to three hours from the capital, with dramatic coastline, lava fields and a glacier-capped volcano at its centre. Staying here rewards guests who want wide open views and small villages rather than city life. Because the peninsula is spread out, a car is essential and we build driving times into each day. It is a refined choice for travellers seeking privacy and natural drama.
• Stykkisholmur: Stykkisholmur is a small harbour town tucked into the western reaches of Iceland and a ferry port for boat trips across Breidafjordur bay. Its peaceful streets and waterfront setting make it a calm base for guests who prefer quiet evenings over nightlife. The limited number of restaurants means dining options are fewer than in the capital, so we plan meals around the town's best choices. It suits travellers who want a restful retreat with access to the sea.
• Husavik: Husavik is a small harbour town in North Iceland and the main hub for whale watching tours that leave from its quay. The town is close to its centre, which keeps daily logistics simple for guests. Cruise calls bring seasonal activity, so the feel of the town changes through the year. We recommend Husavik for travellers who want a northern base built around marine wildlife rather than urban comforts.
