October Half Term to Maldives

Air and sea temperatures stay high through the October break, so these islands suit travellers who want reliable heat for the whole week.

• Malé: Malé is the capital and the main gateway through Velana International Airport, which sits on the neighbouring island of Hulhulé. Temperatures here stay hot and humid through October, and the compact city is easy to walk in the morning before the midday heat builds. It is the warmest base for a short stay if you want city evenings and a quick boat hop to a resort lagoon. We suggest it as a first or last night when your flights land late, because it removes a long transfer from the arrival day. It is exactly the brief our Maldives holidays deals are built around.
• Ari Atoll: Ari Atoll is one of the most visited atolls, with many resorts a comparatively short speedboat or seaplane ride from the capital. Its sheltered lagoons hold steady warm water through October, and the reef offers dependable snorkelling close to the shore. Because it is relatively close to the capital, you spend less of the holiday in transit than you would further south. It is a sensible choice when warmth and convenience both matter during a short school break. It is exactly the brief our Maldives All Inclusive Holidays deals are built around.
• Baa Atoll: Baa Atoll is a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in the northern central Maldives, and its resorts sit in warm, clear water that suits daytime snorkelling in the October sun. The atoll is known for manta ray encounters at Hanifaru Bay, although visits there are regulated and limited in number. Expect a longer transfer than to the nearer atolls, which is the trade-off for a quieter reef environment. We recommend it for travellers who want warm sea days built around marine life.
• Huvadhoo Atoll: Huvadhoo Atoll is the largest atoll by land area and sits further south, where the weather is steady and the sea remains warm through the autumn period. Access is generally by domestic flight and boat, so the journey takes longer than to the northern resorts. In return you get fewer crowds and a more secluded feel, with long stretches of quiet beach. It suits couples and travellers who value space over proximity to the capital. It is exactly the brief our Maldives Luxury Holidays deals are built around.
• Fuvahmulah: Fuvahmulah is a single southern island with an unusual geography, including a large inland lake and a slower pace than the main resort areas. It is reached by domestic flight from the capital, so it adds time to the journey and takes planning. The reward is warm, unhurried days away from the typical resort track. We feel it works best for a family or couple who want something different and are comfortable with a longer route.
