February Half Term to Maldives

Family-friendly stays in the Maldives tend to combine sheltered lagoons, kids clubs and easy transfers, though these features differ between islands.

• Hulhumalé: Hulhumalé is a reclaimed residential and commercial island connected to the capital by causeway, close to the airport. For families the appeal is the short transfer and easy access to city amenities, which can be useful when a child needs something unexpected. It is not a resort island in the classic sense, so beach time is more limited than on a private atoll. We see it as a practical base for a short stay or a first night before a resort transfer. Families seeking a full beach holiday will usually prefer an atoll resort, though it is handy for planning. It is exactly the brief our Maldives Family Holidays deals are built around.
• Maafushi: Maafushi is a local inhabited island a short speedboat ride from the capital, popular with budget-conscious travellers and families wanting a simple setup. Guesthouses here are basic compared with resort villas, and alcohol is not sold on inhabited islands, which suits many family groups. Dress should be modest in public areas, so pack lightweight cover-ups for children and adults. Boat access makes it quick to reach, though the island is more about local life than dedicated kids facilities. We recommend it for families who want good value and are comfortable with a simpler, more local stay.
• Vaavu Atoll: Vaavu Atoll offers a relaxed set of family-friendly resorts, with several properties providing children's clubs, spacious family villas and kids' menus. The sheltered house reefs are well suited to gentle snorkelling, and the shallow, calm lagoons give younger swimmers plenty of room to splash safely. Turtle sightings are common on many reefs, though never guaranteed, which makes this a popular choice for curious children. Transfers by speedboat or seaplane are short and straightforward, which helps when travelling with buggies and luggage. Vaavu is a dependable option for families seeking a quieter pace with plenty of gentle activity, the same brief our Maldives Last Minute Holidays deals are built around.
• Kuda Huraa: Kuda Huraa offers family stays that are only a short journey from the capital's international airport transfer point, with a gentle house reef that suits younger children learning to snorkel. Several resorts here combine calm shallow lagoons with guided snorkelling and sandbank excursions, which can be a highlight for older children. Transfers are quick compared with more remote atolls, so families gain more time for relaxing on arrival day. Age restrictions apply to some water activities, which we check on your behalf. For families who want easy access and reliable reef conditions, Kuda Huraa is a practical choice.
• Kuramathi Island: Kuramathi Island suits families who want a relaxed, well-equipped base in the Maldives, with a choice of villas and beachfront accommodation within easy reach of the water. The resort is reached by a short boat transfer from the capital, which keeps the journey simple and leaves more time for the lagoon. Children may enjoy the calm shallows, though it is worth confirming that the house reef suits younger swimmers before you book. Activities such as snorkelling trips and kids' clubs help keep energy levels high. This is best for families who want a manageable journey and a balance of quiet days and easy outings.
