Weather in Maldives in January

The warmest and most humid conditions in January tend to be found in the central and northern parts of the country, where the heat is felt most strongly in the afternoons.

• Hulhumalé: January on Corfu brings mild, sunny days that make the island a surprisingly warm winter escape. Head to Gouvia, a sheltered bay on the northeast coast, where the marina promenade catches the midday sun and the water stays calm. Daytime temperatures often reach the mid-teens Celsius, so you can enjoy waterside walks, relaxed lunches and quiet views of the Ionian Sea without the summer crowds.
• Maafushi: Maafushi is a local inhabited island in Kaafu Atoll, reached by a short speedboat ride from the capital. Its January weather is typically hot and sunny, with the warmth of the day often softened by sea breezes along the shoreline. Because it is a local island rather than a private resort, the surroundings are more built up and the atmosphere is simpler and more affordable. We recommend it to travellers who want to experience daily island life in warm dry conditions and do not need the seclusion of a private resort. It is exactly the brief our Cheap Maldives Holidays deals are built around.
• Dhigurah: Dhigurah is a local island in the southern reaches of the Maldives' Alif group, with a long sandbank, reachable by domestic flight and boat. January here is typically warm and sunny, with the open sandbank offering plenty of exposure to the sun and heat during the middle of the day. Shade and water breaks become important on the sandbank, so we advise planning swims and walks for the cooler hours. It suits visitors who value a relaxed pace and the chance to see whale sharks nearby.
• Fuvammulah: Fuvammulah is a lesser-visited island in the southern Maldives, where January temperatures are typically hot and humid, though the open coastline catches a steady sea breeze that eases the heat through the day. Evenings are usually more comfortable as the air cools after sunset, and the quiet lanes and shoreline make a relaxed setting for a gentle stroll. Lightweight, modest clothing suits both the warm conditions and local customs in the village. We see this island as a calm alternative for travellers seeking a warm January stay away from the busier atolls, the same brief our Maldives holidays deals are built around.
• Thulusdhoo: Thulusdhoo is a local island in Kaafu Atoll, known for its surf breaks and reached by boat from the capital. In January it typically offers hot, dry days with fresh breezes on the exposed coast, which can help take the edge off the midday heat. Surf conditions and the sea state vary, so visitors should check local guidance before heading out. We would pick it for a relaxed, local atmosphere in warm weather.
