When you search for cheap family holidays to Maldives, you are really buying a package that bundles flights, resort accommodation and transfers into one price, so you see the full cost upfront. We pay the airline, resort and transfer providers in advance, so your money is committed to a confirmed booking and protected from supplier failure. Go early.

A family holiday in the islands is built around sheltered lagoons, gentle sandy entries and practical transfers from airport to resort by seaplane, speedboat or domestic flight, planned around little legs and heavy luggage. Many resort islands are ringed by reef that calms the water near shore, making them far easier for younger children to paddle and snorkel than open-ocean beaches, with parents able to keep a relaxed eye from the shallows.

We book these holidays with the practical details of family travel in mind, checking room set-ups, cot and extra-bed policies, and transfer times when children are on board. Our team also looks closely at pool access, kids' club timetables, and whether the resort offers high chairs, buggy storage, and quieter rooms away from lifts and bars. Every itinerary is reviewed so families can plan meals, naps, and days out with confidence from arrival.

Why Book Cheap Family Holidays to Maldives

Lagoon-front living

Many resorts are built on private islands, so you step from your villa straight into clear water. Reef-sheltered lagoons with gently shelving sand suit a slow morning swim. Few destinations make this so easy to do every day of a stay.

Reef life nearby

Extensive coral reefs and abundant marine life sit close to most resort shorelines. Sea turtles and reef rays are regularly spotted on house reefs. Dive centres are attached to most properties, so you can start learning without leaving the island.

Overwater privacy

Overwater bungalows are built on stilts above the lagoon, with direct access to the water. Many guests book them for honeymoons or anniversaries because of the seclusion they offer. Villa choice is one of the biggest decisions you will make.

Seaplane arrivals

Seaplane transfers are a signature way to reach remote resorts, with scenic views across the atolls. Flight times vary with distance, so ask us about your specific island before you travel. The approach itself often becomes a highlight of the whole trip, especially on a clear morning with the lagoons glowing below and the resort coming into view.

Atoll personalities

Each atoll feels different, from the resort-heavy north and centre to the quieter south. Huvadhoo Atoll is among the largest and suits travellers who want fewer crowds. Matching the atoll to your mood makes a real difference to how the holiday feels.

Easy island-hopping options

Speedboat and domestic flight connections let you combine atolls on a longer trip. Malé is a compact capital you can walk in an afternoon, and it works well as a starting point. This variety keeps a two-centre itinerary feeling fresh rather than repetitive, with a new landscape and pace each time you move between islands.

Your Guide to Cheap Family Holidays to Maldives

Resort islands offer the most straightforward family setup, with sheltered lagoons and on-site dining close to your room.

Kaafu Atoll resort islands: Resorts in this northern central atoll sit within a short speedboat ride of the capital, which keeps transfer times low and reduces the chance of children becoming restless on a long journey. Many of these properties have sheltered house reefs and gentle entries that suit beginner snorkellers. The trade-off is that they are often busier and priced higher in peak school holidays, so we would suggest shoulder-season dates for the best value. value-led deals
Hulhumalé: Hulhumalé is a reclaimed island linked by causeway and close to the airport, making it the quickest base for families who want a short onward journey. It offers a more urban setting, with shops and restaurants within walking distance, which can keep daily costs down. The beaches are less dramatic than those on atoll resorts, so it suits families who value convenience over isolated lagoons.
Ari Atoll family resorts: Ari Atoll is one of the most visited atolls and has a good number of family-oriented resorts within reasonable transfer times from the capital. Its reef is well developed, and sea turtles are regularly seen on house reefs, which children tend to remember long after the trip. Resorts here vary widely in price, so comparing kids' club provision against the room type is worth the effort.
Huvadhoo Atoll resorts: Huvadhoo Atoll is among the largest atolls in the Maldives and is reached by domestic flight and boat, which lengthens the journey but rewards families with quieter beaches. Resorts here tend to have fewer guests, so children have more space to swim and explore. The extra transfer time is a real cost in both hours and money, so we recommend it for families with older children who can manage a longer day of travel.
Maafushi guesthouses: Maafushi is a local inhabited island a short speedboat ride from the capital and is among the most affordable bases in the country, with guesthouses rather than full resorts, the same brief our Cheap Maldives Holidays deals are built around. It is popular with budget-conscious travellers, but it does not sell alcohol and expects modest dress in public areas, which families should plan for. The lack of resort facilities means you will need to arrange activities separately, so it works best for families comfortable with a more independent holiday.

Island stays range from lively local communities to quiet, low-key atolls, and the right choice depends on how much you want to explore beyond the resort gates.

Thulusdhoo: Thulusdhoo is a local island in the northern central atoll reached by boat from the capital, with a relaxed atmosphere and surf breaks that appeal more to older children and teenagers than to toddlers. It gives families a chance to see everyday island life, which is an education in itself, and it suits the same brief our Maldives holidays deals are built around. Local rules on dress and alcohol apply, so we suggest packing lightweight cover-ups and planning meals around that. It is a good value option for families who want a cultural experience alongside sun and sea.
Dhigurah: Dhigurah lies in the southern part of the archipelago and is known for its long sandbank and nearby whale shark waters, reachable by domestic flight and then boat. The island is far quieter than the resort islands, which is appealing for families seeking space, though couples looking for the same brief our Maldives Adults Only Holidays deals are built around may also find its calm atmosphere a welcome change. Transfers take longer and are weather dependent, so build a buffer day into your itinerary. For travellers who value wildlife over facilities, it offers a memorable and comparatively affordable alternative.
Fuvahmulah: Fuvahmulah is a single southern island with a large inland lake and unusual geography, reached by domestic flight from the capital. It is far less visited than the main resort atolls, so the accommodation and activity choices are more limited. Families looking for a genuinely different experience will find it rewarding, but they should expect fewer facilities and plan transfers carefully, much as they would when comparing options within our Maldives All Inclusive Holidays range. It is a good fit for adventurous families rather than those wanting a fully serviced resort.
Addu Atoll islands: Addu Atoll is the southernmost atoll and is linked by causeways between several islands, with a more local population than many others. Its WWII heritage gives older children something real to learn about beyond beaches and reefs, the kind of depth our Maldives Beach Holidays brief is designed to reward. Flights into the south are longer, which affects the total cost, so the value depends on how much you want the history and local feel. It suits families who want a quieter, more culturally grounded stay.
Capital city visit: The capital is the most densely populated island and, while it is not a beach destination, it is a useful half-day or evening outing for families staying elsewhere. Its compact streets, markets and waterfront are easy to walk with children, and it offers low-cost meals away from resort prices. Visitors should dress modestly in public areas, which is worth remembering when planning outings with younger children.
