Cheap Holidays to Thailand in May

Resort prices in May tend to sit below the winter peak, and the places below offer the most room in a budget.

• Pattaya: Pattaya is a good first choice for a budget May stay because it has a dense selection of hotels at varied price points and sits within easy reach of the capital. Its beach areas and several water parks suit families, and the short drive from the airport keeps transfer costs modest. The trade-off is a busier, more urban feel than the quieter islands, so we recommend it for travellers who want easy access and value rather than seclusion.
• Khao Lak: Khao Lak is a calmer alternative where gently shelving beaches and quieter resorts keep rates reasonable through May. It sits within easy reach of a nearby national park, so guests can combine a low-cost beach base with day trips into rainforest and limestone scenery. Its distance from the main nightlife areas is the trade-off, which makes it ideal for couples and families seeking a restful stay on a sensible budget.
• Koh Samui: Koh Samui has a broad range of family-friendly resorts and its own airport, with direct flights from the capital, which keeps onward travel simple and often inexpensive. Because it is an established island resort, you will find choice across the price spectrum, from simple beachfront rooms to larger complexes. We suggest it for holidaymakers who want resort comfort and an easy island base, and it is a popular pick for those seeking a family holiday without paying the premium of the busiest areas, the same brief our Thailand Last Minute Holidays deals are built around.
• Chiang Mai: Chiang Mai in northern Thailand is a relaxed base where a cooler, mountain-influenced setting can make May stays feel more comfortable than the humid south. Its old walled city centre and many temples are easy to explore on foot or by inexpensive local transport, which helps keep daily costs down. Its inland location means no beach, so it is best for culture lovers who are happy to trade sand for temples and mountain views.
• Phuket: Phuket offers a wide choice of hotels and nightlife, so you can find well-priced rooms in May, although the island is busier and more expensive than quieter alternatives. It has an international airport with direct flights from the Thai capital and a bridge link to the mainland, which keeps transfer options flexible. We recommend it for travellers who value choice and nightlife more than the lowest possible price tag, and it remains a strong option for a Thailand beach holiday, the same brief our Thailand Adults Only Holidays deals are built around.
