Holidays from Birmingham to Croatia

Our Birmingham departures to Croatia are arranged around the main airports on the coast and inland, and the team confirms the current departure schedules for your dates by phone.

• Dubrovnik: Dubrovnik airport sits to the south of the city, and the transfer into the old town is a comparatively short journey by airport shuttle bus or taxi. Travellers flying from Birmingham into this airport arrive close to the walled old town, which makes it a practical choice for a short stay focused on the city. The trade-off is that the airport is on the coast and the shuttle arrangements mean you should plan the first evening's transfer carefully. We recommend this gateway for those who want a compact arrival and a historic base from the first night. It is exactly the brief our Dubrovnik holidays deals are built around.
• Split: Split airport lies to the west of the city, and visitors reach the centre by airport shuttle bus or taxi, which takes you into the lively old town with its Roman palace quarter. From Birmingham, the gateway works well for trips that combine a city base with ferry links to the islands, because the port and ferry terminal are close to the centre. Arrivals here tend to suit travellers who want a working city with cafés, shops and nightlife rather than a quieter resort setting. Check your transfer timings on arrival, as the bus schedules can vary through the day.
• Zagreb: Zagreb is the capital and the largest city in Croatia, and it is served by a direct airport bus that runs into the city centre. For travellers departing Birmingham, Zagreb provides a different kind of trip from the coast, with museums, cafés and the historic upper town of Gradec within easy walking distance. The city is inland, so the weather and atmosphere differ from the Adriatic, and it suits city-break travellers more than beach-focused holidaymakers. We think the capital is a strong choice for a shorter stay that offers culture and food rather than sea swimming. It is exactly the brief our Croatia holidays deals are built around.
• City walls: The walls encircle the old town and the circuit is roughly 2 km, which makes a walk around them a clear daytime activity for visitors arriving from Birmingham. Access to the walls is by paid ticket, and the walk offers views over the rooftops and the Adriatic that you do not get elsewhere in the city. Mornings tend to be cooler and quieter than the afternoons in peak season, so an early start is a practical way to enjoy the walk. For many guests this is the first thing they do after arriving, and we consider it a useful way to orient yourself.
• Palace: Diocletian's Palace forms the core of the old town and is part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with cellars, a peristyle and a cathedral within its walls. Travellers flying from Birmingham to the Croatian coast can reach the palace on foot from the centre after a short transfer from the airport. Parts of the Palace complex are still in everyday use, which gives the site a lived-in feel rather than a purely museum-like atmosphere. We suggest allowing a full half-day for the palace and its surrounding streets, especially if you plan to combine it with a ferry trip later in your stay.
