Holidays from Birmingham to Iceland

Our departure-focused selection looks at how the journey from Birmingham connects to the main arrival points and onward transfers in Iceland.

• Reykjavik: Reykjavik is the natural starting point for most trips, and because the airport transfer from the international gateway is the first leg of the journey, it shapes how much of your first day you spend travelling. Our packages line up transfers so you reach the capital without waiting around, and the compact city then lets you stroll down to the waterfront, visit museums and sample restaurants on foot. For a first visit from Birmingham, it remains the easiest way to get your bearings. Reykjavik holidays are our most popular departure option.
• Airport transfers: The international airport that most visitors arrive at, located on the Reykjanes Peninsula, is where the transfer into the capital or onward to a regional base begins, and it is the most important practical detail of the trip. We check the transfer times for every package, so you know how long the journey will take before you set off. For travellers wanting an early start, we recommend building in a settled first evening rather than planning a long drive straight away. It is exactly the brief our Iceland holidays deals are built around.
• Akureyri: Akureyri sits on the long fjord of Eyjafjordur in the north, and it is a quieter base with a small-town pace, a botanical garden and access to whale watching. Reaching it from the capital involves a longer onward journey, so it suits travellers who value a slower trip and do not mind building extra travel time into the itinerary. We think it rewards a longer stay more than a short visit.
• Husavik: Husavik is a small harbour town in the north and the base for some of the country's best-known whale watching tours, which operate from the harbour itself. Like the other northern towns, it lies some distance from the capital, so the route there is best planned as part of a wider northern itinerary, the same kind of brief our Iceland Adults Only Holidays deals are built around. Its harbour sits close to the town centre, which keeps the logistics simple once you arrive.
• Stykkisholmur: Stykkisholmur is a small town on the Snaefellsnes Peninsula in the west, with a harbour that serves as a ferry port for boat trips across the bay. The peninsula is a manageable drive from the capital, which makes the town a practical overnight or day-trip stop. We find it works well for travellers who want a peaceful base and a break from the busier capital, the same brief our Iceland Last Minute Holidays deals are built around, and it can be included as a quiet stop on a wider trip.
