October Half Term to Croatia

These resort areas combine shallow water, varied day activities and easy transfers, which makes them practical for a family travelling in the school holiday week.

• Mlini: Mlini is a family-friendly village on the Riviera south of the old walled city, where a gently sloping pebble and shingle shore suits younger children still building their confidence in the water. The seafront promenade is easy to walk with a pushchair, and the nearby cafes and small grocery shops mean you rarely need a car for everyday supplies. Ferries and bus connections to the wider coast make day trips simple, and the quieter evenings keep bedtimes manageable. We would choose this village if your priority is a relaxed beach routine with simple logistics. It is exactly the brief our Croatia Family Holidays deals are built around.
• Krka National Park: This national park near the central coast is one of the most varied day trips for families in the region. Visitors can walk boardwalks past travertine waterfalls and swim at designated spots within the park. Boat links help you reach the park from the coast, so the day feels like a planned outing rather than a long drive. Swimming is limited to set areas, and some paths can be busy, so an early start helps. This park is our pick for a family day out that gives children plenty to see and do.
• Plitvice Lakes boardwalks: Plitvice Lakes National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site with sixteen interlinked lakes and marked paths of varying lengths. Boat and shuttle transfers within the park mean children can rest between sections of walking. The park is inland, so it is a longer journey from the coast and works best as a full-day excursion rather than a daily activity. Autumn colours and cooler temperatures make the walking comfortable for younger legs. We recommend it for families who enjoy outdoor adventure and are happy to travel a little further for a memorable day.
• Cavtat: Dalmatian seaside family stays at Cavtat, a small harbour town just south of the old walled city, feel relaxed and gently paced. The pebbly coves and shallow bays are ideal for young swimmers, while the palm-lined waterfront offers gelato stops and easy evening strolls. Boats run from the harbour to nearby coastal villages, letting families add a sea-trip day without long journeys. Parking can be limited in summer and the lanes around the old centre get busy at midday, though it stays calmer than larger cities. This quieter base suits families who want a restful holiday by the Adriatic.
• Zagreb's Museum of Illusions and city parks: The capital is a compact city with indoor attractions such as the Museum of Illusions and well-kept city parks for children to enjoy. Public transport and walking make the centre easy to cover without a car, and the airport is connected by a direct bus into the city. The weather can be cooler and wetter than on the coast, so indoor attractions are useful on less settled days. It offers less of a beach experience than the coastal resorts. We think the capital is ideal for families who want a city break with a mix of indoor and outdoor options. It is exactly the brief our Croatia Adults Only Holidays deals are built around.
