Self Catering Holidays to Croatia

The islands offer a slower pace and a different kind of self-catered stay, though food shopping and transfers need more planning than on the mainland.

• Korcula: Korcula is a walled island town with a few small supermarkets and a good run of harbour restaurants for evenings out. Ferries from the mainland bring in fresh supplies, so shops can be more limited than in larger cities. Holiday homes are often within the old town or a short walk of the harbour. We suggest this island for travellers who want a quieter self-catered base and are happy to shop with a little more forethought.
• Vis: Vis is a remote island with a small number of grocery shops and a limited selection of restaurants compared with the mainland. Ferries from the main port are the principal link, so stocking up before you travel is sensible. Self-catered properties tend to be simple and spread across the island, which suits those who value peace and quiet. We recommend this unspoilt island for experienced self-caterers seeking tranquil surroundings.
• Mljet: Mljet has a national park with saltwater lakes and very few shops, so self-catering here works best with a planned supply run before you arrive. Ferries from the southern coast are the usual route, and the timetable should shape your shopping day. Holiday accommodation is quiet and often set among woodland. We suggest this island for travellers who want seclusion and are comfortable with a limited choice of local food.
• Island: Supermarkets are concentrated in the main town, so apartments within walking distance make shopping far easier. Island beaches can be reached by boat or road, and fresh produce arrives by ferry from the mainland. We recommend this island for couples who want lively evenings alongside cooking at home. It is exactly the brief our Croatia Last Minute Holidays deals are built around.
• Korčula: Korčula is one of the more richly historic islands in the Adriatic, with a walled old town of honey-coloured stone, narrow lanes and a cathedral that rewards a slow wander. Regular car ferries link it with the mainland at Orebić, which keeps supplies steady through the season. Self-catered apartments are scattered along the coast and in hillside villages, so a hire car or taxi is useful for bigger shopping trips. For couples and families who enjoy culture and sea views alongside a relaxed island pace, this is the sort of brief our Cheap Croatia Holidays deals are built around.
