Couples Holidays to Croatia

The resorts below are chosen for the way they feel to two people, from waterfront evenings to walled streets after dark.

• Hvar Town: Hvar Town is our first choice for couples who want a romantic waterfront with a clear sense of place. The harbour is lined with bars and restaurants, and the fortress above the town gives sunset views over the water that many visitors describe as the highlight of their stay. Reaching it is straightforward, as the ferry from the mainland coast takes a little over an hour, so a short island stay fits neatly into a wider trip. The trade-off is that summer evenings can feel busy along the quay, so we tend to suggest a few quieter nights in the shoulder months. Many couples also book Hvar holidays as a short add-on to a longer coastal itinerary.
• Dubrovnik old town: Dubrovnik is a strong choice for couples drawn to history, with a walled old town that is pedestrian only and sits directly on the Adriatic. Its fortifications form a circuit of roughly two kilometres, and walking them at dusk gives sea views and lit stone streets that feel quite different from daytime. Summer crowds can be heavy during the day, so we recommend booking evenings out in advance and considering a stay outside the walls for a calmer base. Travellers planning Dubrovnik holidays often find the shoulder months the most rewarding.
• Split waterfront: Split offers couples a lively city base with a compact, walkable centre built around Diocletian's Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The seafront has cafés and gelato stands along the promenade, and the ferry terminal makes day trips to the islands an easy addition to a city stay. The city is busier and less intimate than the smaller towns, but it gives couples a good balance of culture, dining and sea access in one place.
• Korcula old town: Korcula is a walled island town with a quieter pace than its larger neighbours further along the coast, and its harbour restaurants suit an unhurried evening out. It is reached by ferry from the nearby peninsula crossing and from the main mainland port to the south, which keeps it slightly off the main route for day-trippers. The island is smaller and less developed, so the nightlife is limited, but for couples who prefer a calm walk along the walls and a good dinner by the water, it is one of the most rewarding choices within our Croatia holidays, offering a gentler alternative to busier resorts.
• Rovinj old town: Rovinj sits on a peninsula in Istria, with cobbled streets, seafront restaurants and sea views from almost every corner, the kind of setting our Cheap Croatia Holidays packages are built around. The Church of St Euphemia rises above the old town and gives the skyline a distinctive focal point for couples exploring on foot. Istria is reached more readily by air than many island stops, and the town suits a quiet romantic stay with good food. The trade-off is that it is further from the southern islands, so it works best as a self-contained stay rather than a base for island hopping.
