Holidays from Liverpool to Croatia

Our Liverpool departures to Croatia connect you to the coast and islands with the minimum of changeovers, and the following destinations are the ones most easily reached once you land.

• Dubrovnik: Dubrovnik is the most obvious first stop for travellers arriving from Liverpool, because the airport sits a short distance from the city and transfers into the old town are straightforward by shuttle bus or taxi. The walled old town is compact enough to explore on foot in a day, and its harbour makes it an easy base for boat trips along the coast. The trade-off is that summer crowds can be heavy within the walls, so we suggest booking early and planning sightseeing for the morning or evening. For a first visit to Croatia, we think Dubrovnik offers the clearest combination of history and sea views. It is exactly the brief our Dubrovnik holidays deals are built around.
• Split: Split is Croatia's second-largest city and is served by its own airport, with transfers into the centre by bus or taxi that typically take a short time. The city grew around the palace of the Roman emperor Diocletian, and the palace complex is now a living part of the town, with cafés, shops and homes set among its ancient walls. Split also works well as a base for island trips, because ferries depart from its port to nearby islands. We recommend it for travellers who want a working city with easy access to the water. • Zagreb: Zagreb is the capital and largest city, and it has a direct airport bus that runs into the centre, which makes it one of the simplest arrivals in the country. The upper town of Gradec and St Mark's Square are walkable from the lower town, and the city has a strong café culture alongside its museums. Zagreb suits a city break rather than a beach holiday, and it is a good choice if you want to see inland Croatia without a long drive. We think it works well for a short stay before heading elsewhere in the country, and families often enjoy its indoor attractions too. • Hvar: Hvar is an island reached by passenger ferry from the mainland port city, so the route from Liverpool usually involves an overnight stay on the coast before the crossing. Once you arrive, the harbour town's waterfront, fortress and lavender fields make it one of the most scenic island bases in Croatia. The ferry timetable is the main constraint, so we recommend checking sailings before you book your accommodation. For travellers who enjoy sunshine, lively harbour bars and island beaches, this island is a strong choice. It is exactly the brief our Hvar holidays deals are built around.
• Plitvice Lakes National Park: Plitvice Lakes National Park sits inland in the Lika region, so reaching it from Liverpool means a longer road transfer than the coastal airports require. The park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site with a series of interlinked lakes, waterfalls and marked wooden walkways. The main trade-off is distance from the coast, which means you need to plan a full day for the journey and visit. We suggest it as a day out for those who want inland scenery alongside a coastal holiday.
