Cheap Couples Holidays to Iceland

These are the places where a couple can base themselves for a good mix of comfort and value.

• Reykjavik: Reykjavik is the country's capital and the most practical base for a couple on a tighter budget, because its compact centre can be explored on foot and most evenings can be spent in the old town without needing a taxi. Accommodation here is generally the most varied in Iceland, which gives you room to compare options that suit your dates. We recommend Reykjavik for couples who want nightlife, museums and easy access to day trips, and who would rather spend their money on experiences than on long transfers. Reykjavik holidays are a strong starting point for a first trip.
• Akureyri: Akureyri sits on Eyjafjordur, a long fjord in the north, and it offers a quieter and often more affordable base than the capital for couples who prefer a slower pace, the same brief our Iceland Last Minute Holidays deals are built around. The town centre is a short walk from the harbour, and the botanical garden makes an easy afternoon stroll. You trade some of the buzz of the capital for calm evenings and access to whale watching from the charming coastal town on the peninsula to the northeast, which suits couples who want something a little different from the usual route.
• Husavik: Husavik is a small harbour town on the north coast and the base for whale watching tours, which can be a memorable shared activity for two. The town is compact and close to its harbour, so you can reach the boats and the restaurants without spending much on transport. Because the tours run from a modest settlement rather than a major city, the atmosphere is intimate, and it is the kind of unhurried, one-standout-excursion brief our Iceland Family Holidays deals are built around, with the harbour kept central to the day rather than an afterthought.
• Stykkisholmur: Stykkisholmur is a small harbour town set on the western tip of Iceland, where boats leave each day for trips across the western fjords. It is one of the quieter places we offer for couples, with a peaceful atmosphere and few crowds even in busier months, the very kind of calm our Iceland Beach Holidays packages are built around. The trade-off is that the capital lies a longer drive away than the other options, so you should allow extra time for the journey, but for couples seeking calm and value away from the main tourist routes, it is a rewarding choice.
• Vik: Vik is a village on the south coast, a long drive from the capital along the Ring Road, and it suits couples who want to combine a relaxed base with striking coastal walks, the same brief our Iceland holidays deals are built around. The nearby black sand beach at Reynisfjara is a dramatic setting for a couple's walk, though the waves there are strong and visitors need to keep well back from the water. Accommodation is limited compared with the larger towns, so booking early helps keep costs sensible, and we would suggest Vik for couples who value scenery over a lively nightlife scene.
